This Just In: Chelsea’s Getting Married
EmailSome members of the press had them married already — in late summer, at Martha's Vineyard — but that was a bit early, and now the engagement at least is official. Former First Daughter Chelsea Clinton is getting married, to long-time boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky.
Here's an e-mail the newly-affianced pair sent out:
"We're sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn't get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc"

This is world news if you people don’t remember this child grew up before us. Some Americans would like too know that Chelsea’s and her fiancee have agreed on a date. And that she is well.

The solution for Rick and SLS is to go back, erase eight years of Chelsea growing up in the White House — and it is no longer news.
I don’t recall any such complaint with both Bush daughters being caught with fake IDs buying alcohol in Austin clubs while still definitely underage.
Can you imagine the right wing uproar if any such thing had happened regarding Chelsea?
Then what about the front page reports when Ike’s grandson was engaged and married. No one should have noticed.
We should forget the Nixon girls — one of who married Ike’s grandson — the Johnson “Birds” — who made the front page every time one of them was married.

Good post, Dan. You can say what you want about the Clinton marriage but the fact is, unlike McCain, Guiliani, Ensign, Gingrich, Foley, etc. they are still together. I suggest that divorce has a much more destructive influence on the sanctity of marriage than a dedicated and committed gay marriage would have. Yes, the Clintons did a good job of raising this young woman, too. Double standards are routine for the self-righteous. They have to be because they insist on perfection from human beings and when their own kind mess up, as we all do to one extent or another, they happily ignore and forgive. Funny how a political name can dictate ethics with some people.
