What an American-centered view of the situation! The New York Times article makes it sound like, without the anti-gay Americans’ visit & conferences, We Ugandans never would have come up with this anti-gay sentiment on our own. Like we’re a bunch of idiots with no original thoughts; blank slates just waiting to be indoctrinated by the white man. What a completely condescending view of Africans! The truth is, many Africans, all over the continent – without the proselytizing of the American evangelicals, have such views. Why not analyze this fact? Why do you always make it about YOU, America?? Get over yourselves!

the western world shall not tell us wat to do or not to do in our own country,………
we are the ones who suffer the consquences of these acts,…….not America…..
wether they continue to give us financial support or not,….

Have you ever heard Europeans or Americans condemn Saudi Arabia or Asian countries for their laws against
homosexuality? ( they are even more harsh). Why do Western countries specifically point out African
countries? Why is the West so obsessed with homosexuality in Africa yet we have more pressing problems like
lack of education, clean water, poor health, poverty etc… This is pure RACISM with a colonial mentality. Why
care about homosexuality so much but ignore the welfare of the people?

Why the west cares so much homosexuality in Africa but less about the welfare of the people?
As a Ugandan, I know people in the West are quick to berate and undermine anything African…as barbaric or primitive. The West presents its culture as universal–using terms as human rights, universal freedom, global war on terror etc….The assumption is that other societies can only become
civilized if they abandon their cultures and embrace the Western ethos. Behind this agenda there is race, racism and racialism….this is intended to subjugate non Western peoples.On surface, it appears to be just homosexuality but there is a deeper meaning…a cultural and racial war. That’s why the more gay activists (most of them are Westerners) make noise, the more agitated we Africans will become. And this will lead to the total annihilation of gays in Africa ( you can also add Middle East and Asia).

it is just perverted to stick ur things where it was not intended to go and cannot ever be condoned no wonder the world is so meshed up cos u are asked to turn a blind eye to what is wrong and be tolerant and by agreeing the rate of homosexuals increases as children see it as acceptable if u feel the need for backside get urself castrated

It seems folks are missing the point of this story and thread. The death penalty is assigned to HIV positive people ‘guilty’ of homosexual behavior. Several other countries are considering similar legislation. It is widely believed in many African countries that the USA is witholding HIV treatments from Africa because of money or racism. Uganda is not a particularly hostile place but superstition about the immorality of homosexual sex makes sense to people who know the reality that the same behavior, gay or straight, puts people at far higher risk for infection. Unfortunately this behavior is the only option available to gay men (condoms help obviously). I hope this legislation motivates folks to rally around providing cheap treatments to the continent.

Let Uganda chart it’s path, homosexuality is against our culture, and it won’t be forced down our throats like is happening here, I mean 33 out of 50 states banned gay marriage and what not. As for Uganda having to bow down because of donor aid, Uganda has oil, and the rest of Africa has natural resources, and guess who is hungry for all of that, and will buy and buy and buy, a country that will probably beat out the US economy in less than 20 years, yes think on that imperialists and neo-colonists.
