Dumbest Moments of 2009

An interesting piece to point out this morning.  CNN and Money.com have a look back at the ‘Dumbest Moments in Business 2009’ (click for full piece).  Here’s one of their top picks:  A man named Anthony Armatys accepts a job in 2002 to work for a telecom equipment company.  He then has a change of mind and sayes thanks but no thanks on the job.  But the company started paying him anyway.  It went on – direct deposit – for the next 5 years.  In October, Armatys pleaded guilty.  He’ll now have to repay the hundreds of thousands of dollars he was paid.

You forgot the auto company CEOs flying to Washington in their private planes to ask for a bailout.

How about the so-called Stimulus Package’s cost of over a quarter million dollars for each job supposedly created? This could qualify if we considered the government a business, but then private industry would have a tough time competing in the “dumbest moment” category.
