Yesterday, Obama called all Democrats and Independents to try and get the votes needed. He did not invite the GOP and Mr. Reid would not release his version to the GOP, so stop already with the “GOP roadblock” BS. If I had any idea I could turn a GOP member (and they have) I would have invited them (and his promise for bi-partisanship, he should have invited them anyway). Agreed. Here’s what I believe. A Government Subsidized Insurance Program will reform the insurance industry (probably in a bad way). It doesn’t attack the root problem, actual health care costs. We should direct reform at finding where costs can be cut in all areas of the medical industry as well as any handouts our government gives. Welfare, Medicare, unemployment, disability, social security and even HUD housing. We also need to include illegals as they rape our system by using ER’s as their clinics. Tort reform needs to be looked at too.

First off.. Let’s call it what it is, Health Insurance Reform.
In no way is this bill going to lower premiums or save the government. If companies are forced to stop underwriting, take anyone with any condition, and cannot not charge a person with a high-risk condition such as brain cancer, AIDS, obesity (think 400lbs+) and more than a healthy person the only obvious thing will happen.. Rates will climb dramatically because they have no idea what the risk is.
The proposed bill does nothing to lower your medical costs. (ex. drug costs, medical treatment)
And how does the government think that the current medical staff can treat an additional 30 million people without lowering the quality of care?

Promise people they can have everything without saving or working to pay for it will, of course, bankrupt the system. How did it come to be viewed that the latest, greatest, state of the art medical care is an entitlement? Work hard, save your money, and buy insurance and maybe you can avail yourself to it and prolong or live a better life. But like anything it should not just be given away. Incentives work!

OK, simple question, if passed,and things are so dire why not make effective next year, why wait till after next election? There is NO common sense in this bill. This could be so much easier to get off the ground if the intent was to improve healthcare.

I’m bewildered at some of the comments I have read. Have none of you taken an economics course? There is no way the President’s healthcare reform will curb costs. Add millions of uninsured but costs will go down? Wait until you are sick to get coverage? Who will pay for this? We pay premiums each month to help pay for future benefits.
Example: let everyone wait to buy life insurance until they are on their death bed. Pay $1 today and receive a $100k payout tomorrow. Now multiple this by 30 million. Is this cheaper insurance?
POSIBBLE SOLUTION: Let insurance companies sell across state lines, let our coverage move with us from job to job. Play less if you do preventitve care.
I pay $189 per month for a family of six because my employer is smart. My co-pays are $25 or $40 per office visit (not $10). $10 co-pays are minimum wage, for a doctor?
Please think this through and use your brains. Does any of this make sense?

If the bill passes, working Americans will also see a huge decrease in income due to the simple fact that private companies will discontinue their coverage and that is a job benefit that fulltime employees consider valuable. After private employers drop this benefit, the employers WILL NOT add the value back to their employees’ salaries. It will be a LOST BENEFIT.

If this bill was really about health care REFORM – these politicians would (should) take their time, address TORT reform, bring in insurance and medical companies and doctors, etc. etc. REALLY review it and do what is right for the people. But NO. What this is about is an attempt at a government takeover QUICKLY, while the progressives are in power and have the chance. They see this as FINALLY, after decades are hard scheming, to FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE THIS COUNTRY. The citizens of this country need to start paying attention. Unfortunately, the best option at this point is to scrap this bill and start all over. The President himself said yesterday that if Americans knew what was in the bill, they’d support it. However, how can they read it when the Dem leadership spend so much time hiding it from them?
It would have made a LOT more sense to follow candidate Obama’s promise to hold the negotiations in an open environment, broadcasted on C-SPAN for all to see. Then, just as he pointed out, we could see which interest groups were saying what — and we would know who is out for the ‘little guy’ and who is out for themselves…

Set up a private run insurance exchange system (but with an exchange run Board) such as the Federal employees have( for competition and portability). Get rid of union rules in the workplace. Get rid of half the Federal Government in affairs that are best dealt with at the state and county levels (yes, taxes can be accepted at those government levels). Remove taxes that punish investment. Unleash oil and gas exploration and drilling. Then watch the U.S. economy jump through the roof and watch the Arabs feeling sorry for setting up their own exchange currency a ala Euro.

It says nothing about “uncertain and error in making any predictions.” Obama saddled our children with another $800 Billion in debt and the main selling point was that it would create jobs. Members of his administration estimated that unemployment would not go above 8% in 2009 with the stimulus. It passed and unemployment still went to 10%. The point is that you cannot trust what they are saying when they estimate the impact of their bills because they get it wrong (the Republicans aren’t any better). Do you believe them on the costs of their health care takeover? I don’t.

The President is half-right on this; if NOTHING is done to reign in spending, bankruptcy will follow. He is wrong to suggest that any of the suggested plans will change any of this.
Governmental spending on health care WILL NOT be cut by invoking any of the plans suggested thus far. Taxation may increase to cover some of the costs (with the associated economic pains) but there is no suggested decrease in spending.
Governmental spending WOULD DEFINITELY be cut by pegging the eligibility date of Medicare to the average life expectancy in the U.S. (from 65 to 78).

This man has lost his mind. There’s just no other way to see it any more. First Biden says spend more to save $, now this. They are both absolutely mental and we are all completely screwed if this keeps up.

How Can the Federal Government Go Broke If Health Care Costs Are Not Reduced? First of all, this has nothing to do with private health insurance, right? If health insurance premiums increase for private corporations, then how does this possibly have any negative effect on the federal government?
Secondly, if the government can’t afford to pay for medical welfare, doesn’t it just change the program? What is all this nonsense about the federal government going bankrupt that Obama keeps jib-jabbering about? What am I missing? Congress can easily change Medicare and Medicaid if welfare costs are too high.

Obama’s health care reform package has done next to nothing to “rein in costs.” It steals from one program and raises taxes to add another program. Why doesn’t Obama and the rest of congress quit pandering to special interests and work on REAL reform? Obama has shown he is incapable of doing what must be done, as has the rest of the democrats. These backdoor deals with the drug companies that Obama made are disgusting. I am ashamed that I am a democrat but will not be voting as such in the next elections.

NEWSFLASH: The federal government, according to any rational form of accounting, is already bankrupt. We’re on the hook for at least $70 trillion because of the government’s massive expansion of entitlement programs over the past century. We’ll never have that kind of money, and the kooks in Washington know it.
What will happen is the Federal Reserve will monetize the debt. It will create new money to pay off everything, which will radically devalue our currency (and any meager savings Americans have managed to accumulate). This will most likely cause civil unrest as well as possible action by other countries against us (I doubt China wants to be paid back in dollars that are worthless).
This scenario has played out countless times throughout history, which is why I cannot understand why our “leaders” think America is somehow immune to suffering the same fate.
No matter what, it’s going to end ugly, and it all could have been avoided if we hadn’t allowed our government to have a central bank which can “create” new money. To paraphrase Voltaire, paper money will eventually return to its true value: Zero.

I love how people are blaming one party or another. The answer to a lot of our healthcare, crime, and poverty problems is simple, but people are too afraid of the ramifications to speak up.
Obama needs to lead the cause in bringing SHAME and STIGMA back into the world of teenage and unwed pregnancy. Yeah, I hear you politically correct liberals revving up your engines now, but face it: if a young, unwed girl has a baby, she will most likely not GO to college, much less finish high school. You try starting a family as a high school drop-out with no husband and no skills and see what kind of life your kids grow up to have. Multiply that by HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of kids born into poverty to single parents with no skills or education and see what you end up with. What you end up with is what we have… people staying on Medicaid (which is a big factor in bankrupting states’ healthcare budgets) because to marry their ‘partner’ means losing their benefits; unemployed, fatherless males turning to drugs and crime because they have no respectable male role-models; and people stuck on welfare or in dead-end entry-level jobs because they lack the skills and education to advance.
Red, yellow, black, and white, people shouldn’t have kids until they’re either MARRIED or COLLEGE-EDUCATED. We need to quit looking at treating the symptoms and get to one of, if not THE major root cause.

3.) This bill creates an extra tax on ALL MEDICAL DEVICES, for those in the dark that goes as far as to tax toothbrushes! How am I supposed to believe that they want to bring down costs, when they add a tax on everything from a cathader to a band aid!!
4.) Bipartisanship???? Our way or the highway is NOT bipartisan. So take that nonsense on down the road. Dems want no part of Republican input, and that is clear.

If the underlying cost of the care they are insuring keeps rising, then they naturally have to increase their premiums. Nothing is being done to address the cost of health care, but it is a fact that any time the government gets involved, you will see dramatic increases in cost and dramatic decreases in quality. This is all a terribly dangerous joke.

It wasn’t that long ago all we heard democrats say was the new healthcare bill was to insure 40 million people that had no insurance. Now Obama is saying we’ll go bankrupt.
According to the new healthcare bill I would go from paying $200 a month for health insurance to being taxed $1300 a month just for healthcare. If I don’t pay it, I could go to jail or be fined more money. My employer helps pay part of my insurance now, but with the new healthcare bill my employer could opt out and only pay $750 to not insure me at all.
Besides healthcare the Obama Administration is trying to tax us for the air we breathe with the Cap and Trade bill. The reason this administration is trying to tax us so much is because Washington refuses to stop wasting money. Washington will build one hundred and eleven new buildings and fill those buildings with federal employees just to run their new healthcare. Washington can do so much to bring healthcare costs down, but they refuse to listen. Spending has got to stop until America is back on her feet. America does not have the money for grandiose ideas or schemes. According to Obama, Washington can’t take care of the expenses they have now. If that is the case, why do we continue to see more and more pork spending? Why does Obama need thirty plus czars? Why does Pelosi need a special airplane that cost Washington $600,000 every time she flys home? That is absurd. It would only cost $30 million dollars to insure the 40 million that did not have insurance, but Washington wants to spend 1.7 trillion. That is absurd. Why is it necessary for federal employees to get pay raises when the unemployment rate is rising and there is a deficit? I’m beginning to wonder if anyone can add or subtract in Washington?

Obama’s trying to shift the blame for our doomed economy onto someone else.
During his campaign he promised to make unemployment and our economy his #1 focus. Instead, he made his vanity war in Afghanistan his #1 focus,and committed us to $60billion a year JUST for the troops he has committed toAfghanistan so far.
Our economy cannot recover if with another $60billion a year coming out of it, especially since that is just the tip of the iceberg of the real costs to our country a useless war rings up.
Obama accused Bush of “taking his eye off the ball” when Bush shifted focus to Iraq from Afghanistan.
It is no surprise, then, to see Obama take his eye off the ball (unemployment and our economy) and shift focus to his vanity war in Afghanistan.
Obama has committed the exact-same blunders going into Afghanistan that Bush committed going into Iraq.
The outcome will not be different for Obama than it was for Bush.

This is all about taking control of our money and redistriubting it to big pharma and the trial lawyers. 2000 pages on how you’ll spend my money rather than how this will help things. They are referring to a Jan. 9, 2009, report called “The Job Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan” from Christina Romer, chairwoman of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, and Jared Bernstein, the Vice President’s top economic adviser (HIS TEAM).
Their report (quoted over and over by Obama) projected that the stimulus plan proposed by the President would create between three and four million jobs by the end of 2010. With the stimulus, they predicted the unemployment rate would peak at just under 8 percent in 2009, and without the stimulus the unemployment rate would rise much higher.

He’s ticked because of all the taxes, fees and money from mandates that he might not collect from the private sector. Someone has to pay for all his growing domestic and foreign welfare programs. Healthcare “reform” is the backdoor way to collect. If this goes through, “rationed care” for most of us may be an understatement.

This from a president who said Republicans were trying to scare Americans to promote their (Rep) agenda???

If “holding down costs” were REALLY the issue, providing health care to ILLEGAL ALIENS would be STOPPED today! Ugggh! How does attempting to add millions to Medicare and Medicaid roles decrease govt spending again President Obama? Creates more dependence on you, which is good for your power over those involved. That statement goes to all legislators who support social programs that have incentives that trully harm the people and promote dependence on the gov’t.
Hospitals, even “non-profits,” make a killing and squelch competition via legislation outlawing physician owned facilities that actually provide better, more efficient and cheaper care.
Insurance companies do well by sheer volume alone, plus cancelling, denying coverage and and delaying payments by up to 60 days to providers.
The gov’t rapes providers and therefore providers have a tough time allowing too many Medicare and Medicaid patients in their practices at all. It actually costs a physician to care for a Medicaid patient and Medicare is not much better.COVERAGE DOES NOT MEAN CARE PEOPLE! This will only get worse. Plus fraud is rampant, imagine that!
There are solution. Problem specific solutions that cut out the “diseased” part of the system without “killing” the best care in the world. The government should help us fix the sick parts of the system, not destroy the entire system and try to build it back. Listening to them debate, it is obvious that they have no idea what they are doing and the unintended consequences will be phenomenal.
This bill raises taxes, creates new gov’t bureauracracies that cost money, creates new litigation for 10 years to help determine what the bill actually means. Raises the cost of private insurance eventually forcing us out of that market, which is the goal in the first place; single payer, gov’t run.
If you control all the patients, you control all the providers and thus can tighted who gets what, when and where. And lastly, this bill will ration care even further than it already is for Medicare, Medicaid and now reaching up into the middle class to make them dependent on the gov’t, too.

Oh, lets not forget the brain drain they are creating. It is estimated that 20% of physicians will retire early or quit. So conservatively, let’s say 10%, that is 80,000 physicians, who trained an average of 14 years. That is 1.12 MILLION years of training lost. What is the cost of that? What will it cost to replace that? Oh, let’s not forget to address experience. Physicians work about 30 years. So if 10% retire after 20 years, you can add 1.6 MILLION years of experience. Fewer physicians to serve 30 million more patients and it takes 14 yrs to train a new physician.

If taking care of our elderly is going to bankrupt the government, I have a few suggestions that might help.
l. Stop giving away millions of our dollars to our enemies.
2. Remove the abortion coverage in the health care package.
3. Pass a bill that makes the medical industry charge only a little more than what it actually costs for their products. They should be able to make a reasonable profit like any other industry but not but not thousands of times more than that.
4. Cut the salaries of government officials to be more in line with the average American wage.
5. Stop supporting the U.N.

It is true that the US had taken on an unsustainable debt burden during the last Bush administration. To accuse GW Bush as being “conservative” is factually ludicrous. I have watched Charles Gibson for years. I have been telling my wife that I will miss him because I trusted his coverage. Upon watching this interview with president Obama I was appalled. This was not an interview it was pure pandering. Not only did Charles ask no difficult or challenging questions, he actualy resucued the president who was in the process of explaining his most difficult problem was unemployemnt by steering him into the topic of the gravity of sending young people to war. After many years of unbiased and honest reporting this was a terrible way to go out.

Oh yeah, the feds switched me to Medicare when I became disabled, even though I had a very good private plan for retirees that I could afford through my employer. Didn’t cost taxpayers a dime. Now I pay more for less coverage, and you pick up part of the tab, good move huh?

For example, try “The Job Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan”, 1/09/09, a white paper put out by the incoming administration (that would be Obama and his people, BTW). On page 4, the administration states, “As Figure 1 shows, even with the large prototypical package, the
unemployment rate in 2010Q4 is predicted to be approximately 7.0%, which is well below the
approximately 8.8% that would result in the absence of a plan.”.

Even the chief actuary for Medicare and Medicaid said the Senate’s version of health care reform would INCREASE costs. Yes, the federal government is hurtling toward bankruptcy. And adding another entitlement will only get us there quicker.

What about housing? When the government created “false demand” with unqualified buyers and “cheap home loans” (and got rid of the Glass Steagall Act) housing prices skyrocketed and the bankers and brokers are still rolling in money (no one got fired and no one went to jail) The government has no track record of bringing the cost of anything down.
Medicare and Medicaid 2008 expected cost $661 Billion – more than 9 times the governements original projections). In 2011 the first babyboomers will start to retire and the existing Medicare & Medicaid numbers will explode!

When you layer all the products liability insurance that gets added at every step of the medical supply change it’s no wonder we pay $5 for a wood tongue depressor!
Scrap this joke of a bill and start over, beginning with tort reform. Until you do that, we will NEVER belive you are serious about controlling costs, but rather only with to extend even further control over our lives and liberty.

First of all, we are already bankrupt given the general description relating to involvency meaning that we have more debt than assets and are seemingly unable to eliminate our debt.
Secondly, with the exception of medicare, the US government is not impacted by the rising cost of healthcare. It is you and I and any business that provides health care benefits who bear the full burden of additional costs.
Thirdly, medicare is impacted by health care costs but to a much less degree than we are as most medicare costs are locked in for some period of time. Medicare has more problems with comand and control than rising costs.
Lastly, when will politicians from both sides stop lying to us? All they want to do is mislead so they can get their way without you or I asking questions.

That’s funny. Here I thought that the Congress had the power to coin money as clearly stated in the Constitution. There is something seriously wrong here when a government with the power to create money at will is worried about going bankrupt. You only go bankrupt when you run out of money and can’t pay your debts. That can’t happen if you can print money at will.

Think this through. Universal health care is so everyone that cannot afford health care can and will be required to have it. If Medicare and Medicad is going to bankrupt the country, then what will happen when you add all those others on that cannot afford health care into the mix….they don’t have it, because they cannot afford it and if you think employers are not going to drop employees to help pay for it, if they are required too, then think again. 1) Democrats need 60 votes to pass the healh care (Government Health Care Take Over) bill and they have 60 Dems (votes) however the SMART Democrats realise the must retire or “pay the price” not be re-elected to office.
2) The Unions will populate the Health Care industry with members particpating in every facet of the Obama plan. (Good old Unionsl the slush fund for the Dems). Look at the millions of dollars the Unions pump into the Democratic Party; Quid Pro Quo.
3) The taxpayers will pay6 upwards of 40% for Health Care as the Obama plan outlines.

We’re on stimulus #3 (first one 168Bill in 2008, 787 in 2009, now new “jobs” bill for what 200Bill…they don’t dare call it another stimulus). Geitner just extended TARP another 12 mos., so they can feed other banks and pour the money into whatever the government deems needed. Debt ceiling exploding. They’re padding other goodies into the defense bill which has to pass year end…to the tune of more billions.
They’ve used really fuzzy math to get the CBO score to read budget neutral within the 10 year window…collect taxes for years before spending begins, they’ll reinstate the medicare “doc fix” rates in another bill like always, but count the savings in the HC bill, the new Long Term care benefit entitlement they are counting as generating huge premiums but with little costs.
NJ has guaranteed issue and community rating, you can’t be turned down for pre-existing and they can’t scalp you by hoisting up premiums…and guess what the Secretary of HHS and a thousand mignons aren’t needed!!! Our rates are 2x the national average, but if they open up to purchase across state lines that would instanly increase competition by 10 fold and it would adjust down.
We have over 1000 insurance companies underwriting health insurance in the US, and 40% of those are already non-profit. The government has artifically coralled them through regulation, stifling competition. They give tax breaks to employers but not individuals, they don’t allow individuals to join together to collectively bargain…OUR GOVERNMENT BROKE the insurance market.
The Netherlands moved AWAY from their public insurance to a private based system – because costs were out of control. The government dictates minimum coverages for base policies, fix a price for that basic policy, and they have a mandate. Individuals buy the basic policy – and 90% choose to buy additional, which insurers can price and set benefits for – they compete in the add-on market on price/benefits. There are subsidies for low income – but people get to choose and buy their own policies. Their costs have gone down…proven.

*Health Care Savings Accounts
*Catastrophic only policies available
*Tax break for individuals
*Buy a policy from any state
*Exchanges governed by group of the participating state insurance commissioners – NOT THE FEDS.
When it’s up and running, and proven, then consider allowing Medicare patients the OPTION to buy a policy on an exchange in lieu of traditional medicare. Migrate S-Chip and other existing programs to the same platform over time…redundancy is stupid.
Last word…PILOT. There is not a single fortune 500 company which would make any kind of radical business model shift without piloting it in a meaningful way to verify assumptions bear out and measure viability before rolling it out across the board. Not one. Why would we do this without a similar test, something so utterly mission critical? Especially with the pitiful results in Tennessee, Maine and Massachusettes which highlight serious flaws.

Insurance rates have been increased this year due to the requirement buried in the Stimulus Bill that mental health coverage must be given parity to medical-surgical coverage. Mental Health coverage also includes addictions.It caused a 6% to 11% increase in rates over the past 10 months. The House and Senate proposals for Reform further expand services to be covered. So premiums will go up…How much? that’s anybody’s guess until we see the finaal bill. The CBO doesn’t say much about the impact on private payers. The CBO primary focus is on what the Federal government pays.

My wife works for a rehabilitation center and many months ago they stopped accepting medicaid patients because of the government red tape and near impossibility of getting treatment approved. it takes 5 to 10 times longer to get the treatment approved and dont even get my wife started on the poor VA patients… thats even worse. and you liberals want the Gov. to run your healthcare…. ARE YOU STUPID…?

You don’t like it, and you sued the doctors… doctors couldn’t accept responsibility either, and they offload it with malpractice insurance… then continuing on about their merry way doing whatever they want to stay rich, and charging you extra to pay for the insurance. Other patients don’t pay their bills, so what, just charge you extra for that too… there is no way in hell that doctors can justify the cost of the services they provide without fessing up to the fact that they inflate prices without concern. And they defend themselves by saying politicians made it illegal for them to refuse to provide services, so therefore all of this is what people voted for.

All anyone should need to know about whether or not the Democrats have one sincere bone in their body on this subject is to ask yourselves; How many Democrats are proposing or supporting the most obvious cost cutting measure that is easily done and greatly beneficial-tort reform. Many billions of dollars saved off the top. Not one Democrat will even discuss it! Not one Democrat gives a rats ass about universal care, cost control, or any of that. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has run projections on the costs of the current proposals and they are astounding. If Congress & President Obama want to make the health care situation better for us, start by doing what you say: find ways to DECREASE THE COST. We don’t need another trillion dollar bureaucracy. Do the right thing, take the time necessary to really figure out the problem. Don’t just shove through some legislation for the sake of saying you did it. Show some honor here, all of you in DC, if you have any left.

“They know Americans overwhelmingly oppose it, so they want to get it over with.
“Americans are already outraged at the fact that Democrat leaders took their eyes off the ball. Rushing the process on a partisan line makes the situation even worse.
“Americans were told the purpose of reform was to reduce the cost of health care.
“Instead, Democrat leaders produced a $2.5 trillion, 2,074-page monstrosity that vastly expands government, raises taxes, raises premiums, and wrecks Medicare.
“And they want to rush this bill through by Christmas — one of the most significant, far-reaching pieces of legislation in U.S. history. They want to rush it.
“And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen.
“That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private.
“That’s what they intend to bring to the floor and force a vote on before Christmas.
“So this entire process is essentially a charade.
“But let’s just compare the process so far with previous legislation for some perspective. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve done and where we stand:
• The Majority Leader intends to bring this debate to a close as early as this weekend — four days from now, on this $2.5 trillion dollar mistake
• No American who hasn’t been invited into the Majority Leader’s conference room knows what will be in that bill
• This bill has been the pending business of the Senate since the last week of November — less than four weeks ago.
• We started the amendment process two weeks ago.
• We’ve had 21 amendments and motions — less than two a day.
“Now let’s look at how the Senate has dealt with previous legislation.
“No Child Left Behind (2001):
• 21 session days or 7 weeks.
• Roll Call votes: 44
• Number of Amendments offered: 157
“9/11 Commission/Homeland Security Act (2002):
• 19 session days over 7 weeks.
• Roll Call votes: 20
• Number of Amendments offered: 30
“Energy Bill (2002):
• 21 session days over 8 weeks
• Number of Roll Call votes: 36
• Number of Amendments offered: 158
“This isn’t an energy bill. This is an attempt by a majority to take over one sixth of the U.S. economy — to vastly expand the reach and the role of government into the health care decisions of every single American — and they want to be done after one substantive amendment. This is absolutely inexcusable.
“I think Senator Snowe put it best on Tuesday:
‘Given the enormity and complexity,’ she said, ‘I don’t see anything magical about the Christmas deadline if this bill is going to become law in 2014.’
“And I think Senator Snowe’s comments on a lack of bipartisanship at the outset of this debate are also right on point.
“Here’s what she said in late November:
‘I am truly disappointed we are commencing our historic debate on one of the most significant and pressing domestic issues of our time with a process that has forestalled our ability to arrive at broader agreement on some of the most crucial elements of health care reform. The bottom line is, the most consequential health care legislation in the history of our country and the reordering of $33 trillion in health care spending over the coming decade shouldn’t be determined by one vote-margin strategies – surely we can and must do better.’
“The only conceivable justification for rushing this bill is the overwhelming opposition of the American people. Democrats know that the longer Americans see this bill the less they like it. Here’s the latest from Pew. It came out just yesterday.
“A majority (58 percent) of those who have heard a lot about the bills oppose them while only 32 percent favor them.”
“There is no justification for this blind rush — except a political one, and that’s not good enough for the American people.
“And there’s no justification for forcing the Senate to vote on a bill none of us has seen.
“Americans already oppose this bill. The process is just as bad.
“It’s completely reckless, completely irresponsible.”

Now let’s see, health care would bankrupt us but bailouts for greedy, grossly overpaid slime who run banks will not. And wars all over the world will not bankrupt us. And military weapons systems with sky high prices and no cost controls will not. And preventing competition on drug prices will not. Yeah, right. Mr. Obama needs to quit catering to the republiCONs and corporatists and start leading us away from bushjuniorland.
