In the Pakistan/Afghanistan border region there are dozens of craftsmen who can, using nothing more than a charcoal, hand fired foundry, basic blacksmith tools and patient skill, duplicate an AK-47 in about 2 days, a Beretta 92 in about a week. It’s an amazing process to watch.
During World War 2, the U.S. dropped thousands of tiny, single shot .45 caliber pistols via parachute into France. These, in turn, were used to assassinate German soldiers — which yielded a very fine Mauser rifle and 300 rounds of ammunition.
Incidentally, these folks ran Alexander the Great out of their land using no guns at all.

These folks insist on being left alone. And they can get really testy about it, too!

Guns, guns, guns are not a bad title for the article. One could say: Cars, cars and more cars whenever referring to a mass of cars. Let’s not consider guns or cars too be a problem. Demented people with guns, cars or other items that are used to kill or inflict injury too others are the real killers. D. Boom and D. Crocket did not use their guns for the same purposes as J. Dillon or B. T. Kid. In the U.S. and else where, the guns and cars can not be kept out of the hands of demented people. The writer is only letting us know that in Afghanistan almost everyone carries a gun. Johnnie

How do American troops stand a chance against a people who have so many weapons? Any kid could pick up a weapon and blow away a soldier. Anybody with a grudge against the “occupiers” is a walking timebomb – sometimes literally. Who can recognize Taliban from civilians?

Okay lets go back a few years before guns, and AF was a peaceful country with no violence. Now I will throw up. The killing of the 4 white police officers in Washington was nothing more than a “hate crime”. We in this country have some of the best law enforcement officers in the world. As stated eariler if you really want to stop death in this country, start with vehecles (sp) first, remember almost all drivers are licensed and the cars are registered. What good has that done? Forced drivers ED classes, what good has that done? matbe we should take one tire for each person kiiled in a car accident and stack them on the white house lawn! The stack would look like the tower of Babel (sp). Then we could add alcohol related wrecks, the stack just gets higher and higher.

I don’t see guns being the deciding factor in society, it is the mindset and motivation of those holding the guns. You could have 30 nuns with pistols and nothing bad would happen. You could have Mother Theresa with an AK-47 and nothing bad would happen. You could have just one thug with a gun and carnage would result. The mindset and motivation will determine if a gun is beneficial or harmful to society. Yet we ignore this fact and try to ban guns (no matter how they’re used), along with harassing those with positive mindsets and motivations.

some entrepeneur should figure a way to buy up some of those, supposedly cheap, guns and ship to places like USA or Brasil and make some profit. Because guns are expensive here! How can all these, supposedly poor, Afghanis afford to buy all those guns! Have you looked at a sticker price of a decent gun (and I’m talking about the price even before Obama took office and inflated gun prices because of his anti-gun views.)

The need for guns is the result of the lack of effective law enforcement and, really, the lack of laws. This is a deeply religious society and the Koran, or individual interpretations of it, rule rather than secular laws. That is where the problem lies and the same would happen in the US if we accepted the Religious Rights view that the Bible had all the law we needed. Then we would need all those guns. The conservatives know guns fit their world view of the relative value of the church and of “bureaucrats.”

nice title… ‘guns, guns, guns’. problem is THIS aint the problem. come on people… its about self defense, defending what you value and love (family, self, possessions, values) against those who would take it. we innately as species have the right to defend ourselves. end of story.. ted nugent for president, BTW
