Quotes of the Day: ‘It’s not a meeting at which heads will roll’
“It’s not a meeting at which heads will roll. That’s not likely to happen.” — former counter-terrorism chief Richard Clarke, to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos
“The Salahi story may have been delicious, but the implications of the appalling breach of security are immense. The president could have been assassinated. And had that happened, the Office of the White House Social Secretary would have been as culpable as the Secret Service. The president needs to start making that happen.” – Sally Quinn, The Washington Post, after word surfaced of a third crasher at that state dinner
“Over the course of this year, the tea party movement will probably be transformed. Right now, it is an amateurish movement with mediocre leadership. But several bright and polished politicians, like Marco Rubio of Florida and Gary Johnson of New Mexico, are unofficially competing to become its de facto leader. If they succeed, their movement is likely to outgrow its crude beginnings and become a major force in American politics.” — David Brooks, The New York Times
“It's not where it's supposed to be.” — Patron at the library in Searchlight, Nev., finding a copy of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s memoir in the trash can, per The Los Angeles Times’ Peter Nicholas

You are great and I wish you continued
success in 2010. On a personal note,
my husband and I opted for “It’s
Complicated” for our Holiday movie
rather than Avatar.

Sally Quinn has got to the stupidest person in Washington, the complete weather vane for what every party-giver in that stupid, venal town is thinking in the tiny walnut they have for a brain. The term “Villager” was invented for her. Why inflict her on us?

There are occasions when illegitimate guests at state dinners attract far more attention than legitimate ones: a new variation on “Man bites dog.”

It’s been such a long time since there was a meeting with a good head rolling! So many meetings, so few heads rolling.
