Toyota’s Sticky Safety Problems

James R. Healey, auto writer at USA Today, posted a very detailed story this morning about the Toyota acceleration issues that have now prompted a pair of massive recalls for several popular models. John Hanson, Toyota’s U.S. safety spokesman cannot provide an accurate number of motorist complaints because, he says, “the quickness that this all came together.” Brian Ross and the Blotter first investigated reported cases of runaway Toyotas – at times, with fatal consequences — in November and then again Thursday. For that story Ross interviewed Toyota owner Kevin Haggerty, pictured above, who began to experience an accelerating engine – and knew what to do because of the video embedded below.
