‘World News with Diane Sawyer’ to Broadcast From Afghanistan
World News is heading off to one of the crucial battlefields in the war against the terrorists — Afghanistan. Diane Sawyer will broadcast from there this week and her plate is quite full. We’ll spend considerable time with the American commander on the ground, General Stanley McChrystal. It was the General’s controversial assessment which spurred the President to order a surge in American forces or risk losing the fight. We’ll be there as he reviews his troops; try to find out what makes him tick, get insight into his thought process in prosecuting the war. And we’ll try to gauge the war effort itself from the inside. Weekend GMA Anchor Bill Weir and an ABC News team will be in the middle of the action as US soldiers face the daunting challenge of chasing down the enemy by night and trying to win the hearts and minds of the local villagers by day.Another important pillar in the US strategy is the Afghan security force. We’ll get a firsthand look at US efforts to transform under-trained, under-paid army and police into efficient units eventually able take the reins. Without them, the US could be in for a long slog. And we’ll try to get a slice of Afghan life — how ordinary Afghanis live and work and raise their children. We have a new ABC News poll which finds Afghanis optimistic about their future for the first time in a very long time. In another installment of our award winning series, “Where Things Stand”, we’ll have an opportunity to put those poll numbers to the test on the streets and in the homes of real people — their hopes and dreams and fears. All the details just a click away in this space tomorrow. Talk to you then.

She needs to stay home and ask withdrawal timetable of Obama – after all, this was a campaign pledge during the campaign.

I have been on this site over an hour trying to find out what dates and times this particular interview will air and I’ve found nothing yet. In the article it states that “All the details just a click away in this space tomorrow. Talk to you then.”, but that was on there yesterday and I still don’t know. This is very important to us because I know Ms. Sawyer interviewed members of the 108th Cavalry of which our son is a member and currently serving in Afghanistan. He said he got to shake Ms. Sawyer’s hand as she was getting back on the plane. I’d love to see the broadcast if I can just find out when it will be.

Saw tonight’s broadcast from Afghanistan. I take issue with Ms. Sawyer’s comment that Afghan children are the poorest in the world. Is she blind? One child was wearing a jacket with the New York Knicks logo. Yes, some may dig through trash for food, but unless something has changed in the last 15 minutes, the Sudanese child does not have any trash to pick food FROM! And he or she probably does not have any nice, good old American soldier to bring him or her a jacket. Afghan children ARE NOT the poorest in the world. Poor children are everywhere, even in the United States. How arrogant can the media be? It’s disgusting.

I agree that we should train Afganies to take care of their country. I know we pay their forces, but are we also enlisting local clerics to undo the brainwashing they have been exposed to, and to teach them true Islam? If not, are we training the next terror suspect?

temple62…this was broadcast tonight at 6:30 on World News-ABC.
I also have a daughter posted in that part of the world and follow any and all news I can.
To better understand the area, culture and people there I suggest you read “Three Cups of Tea’ by Greg Mortenson,if you haven’t already.
It should be required ready for the Obama administration…all of them.
I hope you get to see the clip with your son in it.I thank your son and all those serving .

“How arrogant can the media be? It’s disgusting.” – Paula Milo-Moultrie
I don’t think it’s arrogance Paula.
Consider that they are in the entertainment business.
This whole Afghan bit is designed to enhance their new anchor, Diane Sawyer, her image and cred level. Some meat heads sit around a table and come up with ideas to make their newscast and casters look like something serious told to you by important people that you must watch to stay informed. They consult other image conscious bone head pollsters who tell them what they want to hear and it’s off to Kabul for Ms Sawyer.
It’s making news up to fit their agenda.
There’s nothing much happening in Afghanistan right now, it’s winter time.
The real fighting is in the summer. Those tens of thousands of troops that are on their way won’t be there until the spring time. [sarcasm]Ms Sawyer is there just a tad early.[/sarcasm] It’s a relatively safe time to visit, you won’t see Diane there this summer, ha ha ha.
So Paula, grin and bear it.
Better yet look for the silliness and unintended humor built into the broadcast and you may actually be entertained instead of getting upset.
