Throwback Thursday: Week 4 The good-vibration U.S. men's hockey team — coming off Sunday's upset of host Canada — advanced to the semifinals Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Switzerland. They now stand just two victories away from gold, hoping to repeat (albeit it with professional players) the achievement of the 1980 "Miracle of Ice" team. In honor of their gold medal run — and a solid overall Vancouver Olympics for Team USA — embedded below is a clip from July 28, 1984 — the opening ceremonies of the Los Angeles Olympic summer games. Sam Donaldson introduces two segments, one by Rita Flynn, an overview of the pomp and pageantry inside the Coliseum; the other, a look by Mike von Fremd at President Ronald Reagan's role in welcoming the athletes and offering encouragement ("Win one for the Gipper").  Among the highlights of the opening ceremony — a futuristic man in a jetsuit slicing through the stadium.  Another classic, timely archive to mark Throwback Thursday.
