Tea Leaves: Reading Palin’s Palm

Embedded below is a section of Cynthia McFadden's Block 4 from last night, a political note about Sarah Palin on the move. You will find some of her fighting words from her keynote address at the first National Tea Party Convention in Nashville over the weekend, including the President-Obama zinger about the "charismatic guy with a TelePrompter." Of course, put your hand up if saw the rather curious memory device of her own. The prompts are revealed clearly in the clip. Also, in tonight's broadcast, we'll have some of Michelle Obama's interview with Robin Roberts, in which the first lady responds to some of Palin's pokes. You can read about that here.

So Sarah Palin insists that global warming is a bunch of “snake oil.”
Maybe Sarah Palin has the public eating out of her hand, but the actuaries of insurance companies are not fools. If you are an actuary, and if you have a choice of whom to believe, Sarah Palin, or the overwhelming majority of climate scientists, you had better weigh in with scientists – at least if you want to keep your job.
As an actuary you will understand that global warming increases the chances of hurricanes, floods, severe storms, tornadoes, and droughts in certain areas. Other areas will be subject to costly power outages caused by antiquated transmission lines. You must consider all of these probabilities when you determine insurance rates. You will definitely want to identify high risk regions where these catastrophes are most likely to occur.
Homeowners and businesses in these high risk regions can expect costly increases in their insurance policies. Home owners are likely to discover an increased number of deductibles and exemptions. (Usually after a tornado rips off the roof of their McMansion.) Business owners in high risk zones will face three options. They can either slash jobs or cut salaries. Or they can relocate to less hazardous areas. None of this bodes well for residents in these regions, who will also discover that living in a high risk zone will definitely cause their property values to sink.
When Sarah Palin gets elected president, we may some day realize that all the hopey changey stuff that Sarah Palin ridiculed wasn’t so stupid after all.

It’s understandable to have notes, whether on paper or what have you, on complex points you’re trying to make. The question was name the three top priorities facing this country…If you need notes for that you’re not allowed to run the country.
FAIL
