“World News with Diane Sawyer” Posts its Best Demo Delivery in Over a Year

“World News” is Up 13% in Total Viewers and 12% in Demo vs. a Year Ago


Increases Total Viewing and Demo Advantages Over CBS Week-to-Week and Year-to-Year


For the week of February 8th, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 9.24 million Total Viewers and a 2.3/8 among Adults 25-54 according to Nielsen Media Research. This marks “World News” best delivery among Adults 25-54 in over a year and highest Total Viewer delivery in over a month. 


Compared to the previous year, “World News” increased its Total Viewing audience by 13% (+1,080,000) and its Adults 25-54 audience by 12% (+300,000). “World News” closed the demo gap (660,000) with “NBC Nightly News” by 4% year-to-year. Additionally, “World News” was up 15% in the demo rating and 8% in Total Viewers week-to-week. 


Year-to-year, “World News” Total Viewing and demo leads over “CBS Evening News” grew 46% and 36% respectively.  For the week, more than two million Total Viewers and 570,000 Adults 25-54 separated ABC and CBS.


Last week “World News” featured reporting on the major east coast blizzards. ABC News was the first to report that former President Bill Clinton had been hospitalized and “World News” followed the story with reporting from Senior Health and Medical Editor Dr. Richard Besser and Chief Political Correspondent George Stephanopoulos. "World News" also featured coverage of the major offensive launched in Afghanistan with Miguel Marquez reporting from there.
