Do You ‘Accept’ Chatroulette or Hit ‘Next’?
Bill Weir will have a profile/social experiment hybrid tonight about the (relatively) new-on-the-scene Web sensation Chatroulette. He’ll offer some backstory and a Web conversation with Andrey Ternovskiy, the 17-year-old Moscow teen who started the venture — and is now looking at a potential multi-million-dollar payday. Of course, we’ll also do some first-hand touring inside the strange world, where the likelihood of crossing a pervert is pretty high — as I found out myself when I tried it for the first time today. A little creativity, and a bit of patience, however, and there are those few stranger connections that proved more interesting than creepy. We also look at how, as this cyber-window to the world gains users, it’s already losing some of its anonymity. Click HERE for the initial ABCNews.com story on Chatroulette one month ago. ——————– UPDATE: Here is the segment, “I Can See You,” which included more interview footage with Ternovskiy in Russia than I previously had thought. Pretty fascinating backstory, whatever happen to the Web craze next.

Tried it – it’s an incredibly silly site that’s filled with nothing but horned-up 15 year olds flashing each other. I tried it for 45 straight minutes and never once was connected to anyone other than that type.
If the Russian kid is smart, he’ll turn it into a subscription site. He’ll make money off of his idea, and will weed out the tweens/teens who will no doubt saturate (and ruin) this idea, otherwise.
