Quick preview of a report scheduled to air tonight — a feature from Ryan Owens and producer Alyssa Litoff about the rise of evangelical Christians within the bloody world of mixed martial arts. Anyone familiar with the sport — which combines kickboxing, wrestling and other fighting disciplines — knows just how brutal it can be. But to John Renken, founder of Xtreme Ministries in Clarksville, Tennessee, and a former fighter, pastor and coach, faith and fighting go hand in hand. "Look at what Jesus endured for our sake," he tells us. "He faced his own cage in life. When he came out, he was a bigger, bloodier mess than I have ever been." One of the fighters featured in our piece tonight, Mike Thompson, says he found God with the help of MMA after a tumultuous upbringing. The fight begins at about the 4-minute mark, and ends when Thompson throws some ridiculous "triangle" choke hold, literally knocking his opponent unconscious. For anyone wondering, yes, we attended a fight night. Will embed the segment in the morning.
