Quotes of the Day: ‘America… I Think I’ve Wasted Your Time’

"We saved the economy, but we kind of lost the public doing it." Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, to The New Yorker

“The situation on the ground remains dire. And people should be under no illusions that the crisis is over.” – President Obama, after meeting with Haitian President Rene Preval at the White House

“The political outcomes are limited: He can appear radical in victory or weak in defeat. Given his health-reform decisions, it is no longer possible for Obama to be a president both strong and unifying.” – Michael Gerson, in The Washington Post

“To the extent the State of the Union has degenerated into a political pep rally, I'm not sure why we're there…The image of having the members of one branch of government standing up, literally surrounding the Supreme Court, cheering and hollering while the court — according the requirements of protocol — has to sit there expressionless, I think is very troubling.” – Chief Justice John Roberts

“America, I’m going to shoot straight with you: I think I’ve wasted your time.” — Glenn Beck, after spending an hour with Congressman Eric Massa

Now we get the full statement from Justice Roberts. It makes sense now.
I agree with Justice Roberts.
The State of the Union Address has become a mere pep rally. Just look at Biden and Pelosi up there behind the President. If the President udders one word, they’re up on their feet clapping like fools, while the other side sits there without expression. It’s rather silly on both sides.
I do think, however, unions and corporations should not have an unfair advantage with ads for political candidates.

I meant to type: “utters” NOT “udders”.
Thanks

Roberts is only unhappy, that EVERYONE disagrees with the Court.

One thing is certain…..the government’s efforts for the citizens, to create jobs and income for families, was far too little, too late, and basically ineffective.
Clearly, the government was more interested in saving corporations, than in helping citizens.

I believe that if the people of the United States would be more united, instead of separated by the names of Republicans and Democrats and called Americans, more things would get done in our fractured government. Both sides are so hell bent on worrying about their political futures, things are literally frozen in both houses. I feel that our politicians should run for one term only; then they can concentrate on trying to solve the problems at hand, rather than worrying about their own politics! President Obama does not stand a chance getting anything done in this atmosphere of intolerance. I wish our political boys and girls would learn how to play well together.

It’s always been a pep rally, nothing new here. The Supreme Courts decision to scrap Mc’Cain Feingold is good reason they should sit there “expressionless”. Let us count the amount of CASH in the upcoming elections in November, then ask Justice Roberts if it’s more troubling than the “pep rally”.

I think Jennifer Doering is right. Now if only the Democrats would realize how wrong they are and join the Republicans, then we could really get something accomplished.

j011254: I’m going to out on a limb here and assume you are kidding. I came to that conclusion because you can’t get anything accomplished with a party that thinks the status quo is OK, obstructs and says no all the time.

It’s clear the republicans are using health care in an attempt to bring down the Obama administration. They have set that as their goal and and have no intention of looking at the needs of the American people.
The media is clearly on the side of the Republicans so we daily hear the nasty little digs against Obama very loud and clear. How often do we hear anything favorable for this administration from the media? Rare to never!

What, really, is the point of several pundits lacking in any kind of objectivity at all listed one after another in a basically meaningless example of venting, rather than any meaningful journalism or “reporting”? Then we have a follow-up of others only interested in political gotcha games calling the President meaningless names that show nothing more than their own political bias. In fact, the Supreme Court has just opened the way for the wealthiest, most powerful people in this country to control politics and legislation more than they already do. We need campaign reform that will prevent the selling and buying of elections to counter this clear cut denigration of anything even remotely resembling a democracy. Roberts and company have taken this country back to before the American Revolution. Now more than ever we will have favored representation of the small minority of a plutocratic aristocracy. Where in our Constitution does it say money more than any other factor should determine who is actually represented and worked for in Congress?

Having the backing from big corporations and/or unions can go the other way in some cases.
If a candidate is riding the coat tails of questionable characters, it would surely be brought to the American people’s attention.
In today’s world nothing goes unnoticed.
I am confident that big money will not rule the day.
We, as American voters, will have to stay focused and watch who is in whose pocket.

“I think I’ve wasted your time”. The first truthful words to pass the Becksters large lips.

Ha ha!
When I first say this headline I thought the quote must be from Barack Obama.
