Authorities in San Diego just announced the discovery of what they believe is the body of 17-year-old Chelsea King. The remains were discovered in a shallow grave near a lake, San Diego County Sheriff William Gore said at a press conference tonight. King went missing last Thursday while on a jog at a local recreation area. Thousands turned out to help search for the high school senior. Convicted sex offender John Albert Gardner III, inset, remains in custody tonight without bail. He is a suspect in her rape and murder. As we reported earlier today, Gardner's DNA was found on King's clothing where police believe she was abducted. Gardner has been linked to at least one other alleged attack in the same area and may be tied to other unsolved crimes. UPDATE: The family of Chelsea King confirms on the Chelsea King Search Center Facebook page that it is, in fact, the teenager's body. Included is this note: At this point, all searches for chelsea at the center will be concluded. We cannot begin to express the incredible, indescribable support we have received from the community and the world at large in our efforts. Our love and support will be directed to the King family as well as our own families in greiving for the loss of Chelsea. UPDATE 2: Embedded below is today's "GMA" report.
