Quick set-up for tonight’s lead segment, in which co-anchor Cynthia McFadden and producer Mary Marsh spend the day with Joyce Meyer. For those unfamiliar, the 66-year-old Christian evangelist and mother of four has built a multi-million dollar ministry and a worldwide following on TV, the radio, in books and online. Her 80th title, “Eat the Cookie…Buy the Shoes: Giving Yourself Permission to Lighten Up,” was released today. Her own life story includes sexual abuse as a child and admitted theft, both topics she is open about in her preaching and in our conversation, a clip of which you can see HERE. In it, Meyer talks about wealth — her ministry brings in $100 million annually — and the idea of so-called “prosperity preachers.” She is also asked about using a private jet, to which she says it allows her to do the work she does. “Why is it that if people think if you ‘work for God,’ that that always means you cannot have anything?” Much more tonight.
