Maytag Dishwashers Recalled

Approximately 1.7 million Maytag Dishwashers are being recalled, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday.

The dishwashers were sold from February 2006 through April 2010 and due to an electrical failure in a heating element, the dishwashers could pose a fire threat.  12 fires have been reported but no injuries, according to the CPSC.

The recalled brands include Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley and come in black, bisque, white, silver and stainless steel front panels, a statement released by the commission said.

The Safety Commission advised consumers to stop using the recalled dishwasher, disconnect the electric supply and contact Maytag to verify if their dishwasher has been recalled. If it has been recalled consumers can either receive a rebate for certain new dishwashers or a free in-home repair, according to the CPSC.
