Oscar-winning film director Roman Polanski is a free man tonight — at least in Switzerland. Polanski had been under house arrest at his Swiss chalet, pictured above. Officials there rejected a request by the U.S. to extradite him to Los Angeles to face punishment for having unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977. Swiss officials said the extradition request was flawed. Federal officials here called the decision "disappointing" and the Los Angeles District Attorney said he will still pursue the case should Polanski go to an extradition friendly country.
