Who’s the Dope?

In an exclusive interview tonight, Floyd Landis leveled new doping allegations against Lance Armstrong. But Armstrong's attorney vehemently denies these claims. After hearing both sides of tonight’s exclusive interview, tell us: who do you believe?

I am disapointed again with what you call news Landis cant keep his story strait. His voice is not clear. I even saw his pupils dialate when he was talking. I did not believe he cheated when he won, until there was proof. Funny how this show did not show any evidence aginst lance or any other team member. Well only the cheaters were mentioned. Disappointed at what you call news.

I believe an investigation is important. I wouldn’t be surprised either way. If they find Lance was taking drugs would anyone be surprised? No. I think surprised is not the emotion most Americans would feel – I think heartbroken might be the better adjective. This generation has seen all hero athletes become something we never knew possible – cover up thieves that are paid too much money, liars, and bad role models. It’s a damn shame and it’s time to clean it all up. If we saw another country coming out with athletes like Bonds and Landis we’d be angry and embarrassed for them. Why is the US now in the position where we have to be the ones where the world is embarrassed and angry at us?

I believe Landis.
Armstrong is a drug fiend.

Agreed, Armstrong is standing more and more on his own. All of his “failed or retired cronies” are cracking under the caused humilitation of watching this “Santa Claus” get all the attention for being a so called champion. But cheating is his Tour championship of which there is no trophy or jersey. Utter disappointment around the world of someone we hoped just may be really superhuman….Well, we have all concluded that it is not true.

It would be a lot easier to watch the episode if you’d put it back up on ABC.com, Hulu, Facebook and all the other pages where it used to be available. It is some new ABC policy I’m unaware of to pull videos less than 24 hours after they air?

I am just shocked that this program was even aired. There is currently a federal investigation underway and it is bad form (if not illegal) to have had Floyd on your program. And you had to do it during the final days of the Tour? Did Landis require that? Seems to be his style. It’s what he did during the Tour of California. He’s out for revenge and is in need of mental help. Still, I am embarassed for ABC. You really made a bad decision. Very opportunistic journalism of the yellow variety!

Have to agree with Tiffany. This was really a very poor effort by ABC/Nightline. Until someone proves Lance is/was a doper, or he is formally charged with something, this is just the kind of witch hunt journalism that he should be justifiably cautious about. I just don’t believe that he is the only guy in the world smart enough to figure out how to pass hundreds of PED tests when everyone else keeps getting caught. Until proven otherwise, I’ll remain in the clean Lance camp and continue to believe that miracles really do happen.

If he did, then he used better ones than everyone else. I’m sure that everyone used something to help performance. But Lance was and is still a champ to me. Landis is just causing trouble for personal reasons.

It appears as though they are all frauds…the promoters, team owners / mgmt, etc. Unfortunately, the buck stops with the athlete and the athlete has to pay for the lies and deceptions of everyone, at all levels. The global cycling community was seduced by the fact that, finally, money and recognition was flooding into the sport.
They were ALL using the cancer community and will continue to do so as long as it’s beneficial and lucrative to them. The only way the rider can get away with anything is if they have ‘approval’ by management and the promoters.
This behavior is excessively prevalent in cycling. The promoters own teams and enter those teams into the same events they promote and magically, the teams they own…win. Imagine that. They’ve just paid themselves.
Do some background research on the promoters and team management of the next event you attend. The longer they’ve been in the industry, the more dirt you will be able to dig up. These are the same people who threaten riders with exile by ostracism while the promoters and managers go on to business as usual, consistently breaching contracts, etc. Over the past 30 years, many riders with tons of potential have been left on the side of the road (no pun intended) because they fell victim to this sort of behavior. Ultimately, the racers suffer and become labeled ‘persona non grata,’ or are discredited, not resigned, etc. The racer pays the piper while the promoters and managers feign sacrifice. It’s a common pattern / theme that is pervasive, insidious and epidemic.
Furthermore, anyone that knows anything about the sport knows…what Lance did is pretty much impossible. Mistake #1: Being too obvious: Seven? Consecutive? Post-cancer? Next stop…Brooklyn. Mistake #2) Comeback: His performance is quite revealing, much more believable and a huge contrast to his prior performance…Level Playing Field? Mistake #3) Probably the worst one of all…under the veil / guise of cancer, attempting to dupe every unsuspecting global citizen who doesn’t understand the sport, its politics and power structure.
With Lance becoming bigger than cycling, they’ve (cycling community) gone outside of their own little community and involved the unsuspecting cancer community. The local, national and international cycling community has opportunistically fed off of the cancer community via Lances’ story. They have never benefited so much through his bout with cancer. They have a lot to thank him for and I’m sure, based on their unspoken ‘code,’ know that they are indebted to him. It’s really sad. Heartbreaking. There are really low, low people at the highest level of cycling. They come in all shapes and sizes. Ultimately, they all have to live with themselves.
BTW, when is Lloyd’s of London going to go back and look at the tapes from the last race of the Triple Crown in Philadelphia back in the day. Did they commit fraud then as well? Seems pretty obvious. Don’t know how people could have missed it.
