“World News with Diane Sawyer” Posts Best Total Viewer Delivery in a Month

Closes the Total Viewing Gap with NBC Week-to-Week and Year-to-Year


For the week of July 5th, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 6.91 million Total Viewers and a 1.5/6 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.  Compared to the previous week, “World News” delivered 170,000 additional total viewers marking the broadcast’s best Total Viewer delivery in a month.


“World News” narrowed the total viewing gap with “NBC Nightly News” week-to-week and year-to-year. The total viewing gap was 35% smaller (-370,000) compared to the previous week and 15% smaller (-120,000) compared to the same period last year.


Note: ABC and CBS’ weekly averages are based on 4 days, while NBC is based on a 5-day average.  David Muir anchored “World News” on Monday, Diane Sawyer was off. 


Last week “World News” reported on the record breaking east coast heat wave and continued its comprehensive coverage of the oil spill in the Gulf with reporting throughout the week from Jeffrey Kofman and Ron Claiborne. David Muir began reporting “World News Returns to Haiti” as the 6-month anniversary of the devastating earthquake approaches. In addition, the broadcast featured reporting from Jake Tapper on the effects of the $862 billion stimulus package and from Martha Raddatz from Afghanistan.
