Weather Watch: What’s Ahead This Week in Weather News
A quick look at the major weather stories we’re following this week from meteorologist Gerard McNiff: TROPICAL CONCERN…The remains of TD 5, the system which last week we thought would become “Danielle” but did not, is heading back over water after spending the weekend bringing scattered flooding from Louisiana to Georgia. And now the National Hurricane Center feels that there is a 20% chance of it becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 2 days as it moves along the Gulf Coast states.
HEAT… has ended in the Midwest, and it will diminish in the South early in the week. High temperatures are forecast to return to the Southern Plains by Thursday and Friday.
IOWA FLOODING…A couple rivers remain flooded, including the Skunk and Des Moines. Major/record flooding is still occurring in the towns of Oskaloosa, Augusta and Ottumwa, but flood waters are or have receded in Ames and Colfax. Dry weather is forecast through Monday. Rain will return Tuesday, but at this time it does not appear to be heavy enough to renew river flooding. Click here to return to the “World News” page.
