ABC Closes Both Total Viewing & Demo Gaps with NBC Week-to-Week

For the week of September 27th, “World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.09 million Total Viewers and a 1.5/6 among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. Compared to the previous week, “World News” grew its Total Viewing audience by 80,000 viewers. “World News” topped “NBC Nightly News” in Total Viewers on Friday, October 1 by 90,000 viewers.

Compared to the previous week, “World News” closed the Total Viewing and demo gaps with “Nightly News.”  The weekly demo gap (350,000) was 20% smaller and the Total Viewing gap (660,000) was 21% smaller, marking the smallest weekly total viewing gap between the two programs in 5 weeks.

Note“World News” weekly average is based on 4 days (M, W-F) due to KABC/Los Angeles pre-empting the program for a live debate.

Last week on “World News,” Brian Ross was the first to report on the 'credible' threat of a new terrorist attack that has officials in Europe and the U.S. on high alert. In addition, Ross reported on the story of a Staff Sergeant who allegedly went on a murderous rampage targeting innocent Afghans. “World News” also aired a week-long series “Going Home: Looking for What Works,” where Diane Sawyer, David Muir, Sharyn Alfonsi, Ron Claiborne, and Bill Weir reported on the economy from their hometowns.

Jon Banner is the executive producer of “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer.”
