One more thing I’d like to add is that this happened when someone else was captain of the ship. It must have been ok with him at the time? Was this seen by the ships captain? Stopped? Encouraged? Just wondering.

ABC has learned a new word. Raunchy. How many times have we seen or heard it in the passed two weeks? Raunchy videos … OMG it’s the end of the world! This happened about four years ago and it’s time someone not only “manned up” but “grew a pair” along with it. ABC (the new Fox entertainment station) has done itself proud to destroy this Naval Officers carreer. Nice going ABC and if this is how you “support the troops” by sensationalizing such a trivial thing then you can go right straight to …… well, you get the point.

I saw these videos and couldnt believe it. I have served in the Navy for a long time. I still remember the fallout after Tailhook in 1991. I see this has being close to the same. Captain Owens should have the UCMJ thrown at him. Not including his superior officers. I hope this goes all the way up. Well Captain so much for making Admiral. Way to go.

So let me see if I understand. He joined the arm forces to protect our Bill of Rights, one of which is Freedom of Speech. But he gave up all those rights when he signed up? I think we need to put our rights ahead of the Perceived notion of political correctness.

I smell a rat. Someone backstabbing to move up the chain, happens among the blue-shirts and the officers too. So sue the man for having a friggin sense of humor. Disgraceful. This CO should not have his command stripped for harmless nonsense that was corrected 4 years ago. You have the respect of a lot the REAL navy, Capt. Honors.

He should have NEVER been dismissed.
The ones who think he should go, should look in the mirror at their own past behaviors not meant for the public.
He is one of a handful capable of commanding a carrier. USA is really getting stupid.

I think this is more like undue punishment due to the timing of it. This was dealt with years ago but now that the media is turning this into Tailhook Part II, the Navy fires him. I didn’t find the videos funny but to relieve someone of their command so many years after the fact seems like an overreaction. It’s too bad because in all other ways Honors seems like an exceptional officer who was well-liked and respected by his crew.

He probably should be sanctions but it is a little lame. Basically, he had bad judgement and, therefore, should be reassigned. Naval traditions, in MANY if not ALL, navies involvie hazing, traditions, and ritual. Often, when seen from outside eyes as ranging from ridiculous to torture. This is historical to navies and are used to instill comradeship, tradition, disciplene, etc. Its not like someone was walking the plank, flogged, or the “equator” highjinx was questioned….

As a retied Infantry Company commander this is ridiculous, Owen Honors didn’t do anything wrong. We used to do the same kinds of funny skits in the 82nd and the 10th, its what good officers do: Keep the Morale up.
Bad officers have no sense of humor, the men hate him, they can’t lead and they drag down the entire unit. Real combat leaders know this, its why in direct action units people are slammed and given nicknames to make fun of themselves – if you can’t handle some good hearted ribbing you can’t hack it. If a joke makes you crack, then combat will get the people that follow you killed.
Seriously people, use some common sense, if someone in the military can’t handle a joke, even a so called “raunchy” joke, then how can they handle combat? Good leaders know this, you have to make your people strong, teach them to laugh off hardships and take it like a warrior.
The only people that should be relieved are the wimps that can’t handle this kind of humor. Seriously, if you can’t handle raunchy jokes, you’re in way over your head if you have to face combat.

Why did abc news campaigned to have him removed? Isn’t the function of the media to report without imparting meaning? It was clear to me the reporter had an agenda.
