Ratings Report for ABC News’ “Nightline” For the Week of January 31, 2011

“NIGHTLINE” IS #1 AMONG TOTAL VIEWERS, ADULTS 18-49 AND ADULTS 25-54 FOR THE WEEK

“NIGHTLINE” GROWS IN TOTAL VIEWERS, ADULTS 18-49, AND ADULTS 25-54 YEAR-TO-YEAR

“NIGHTLINE” IS #1 SEASON TO DATE AMONG ADULTS 25-54 AND TOTAL VIEWERS FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 1993

During the week of January 31, 2011, including the first two nights of the February 2011 Sweep, ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked as the No. 1 program in late night in Total Viewers (4.43 million), Adults 25-54 (1.94 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.48 million), according to Nielsen Media Research. In fact, the ABC program scored its second-strongest performance of the season across all three Nielsen measures.

For the 4th time in the last 5 weeks, “Nightline” improved year-to-year in Total Viewers (+10%), Adults 25-54 (+9%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%).

Season-to-date, “Nightline” ranks in first place among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. This is the first time “Nightline” that has been in first place at this point in the season since at least the 1993-94 season, when “Letterman” began on CBS. In addition, "Nightline" is up by +3% in Adults 25-54 season-to-date compared to the same point last year.

“Nightline” topped NBC’s “The Tonight Show” by its largest margins in 4 weeks (since w/o 1/3/11) in Total Viewers (160,000), Adults 25-54 (150,000) and Adults 18-49 (70,000).

Tuesday’s airing (2/1/11) of “Nightline” drew the ABC program’s second-strongest telecast of the season in Adults 25-54 (2.22 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.75 million).

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Cynthia McFadden, Terry Moran and Bill Weir. John Donvan and Vicki Mabrey are correspondents. James Goldston is the executive producer. The program airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m., ET on the ABC Television Network.
