For the Second Consecutive Week, “World News with Diane Sawyer” Grows Total Viewing and Demo Audiences Year-to-Year

Covering the Disaster in the Pacific on Friday, “World News” Had Most-Watched Friday Telecast in Over a Year and Largest Demo Audience in Over Two Years

“World News” Outperforms CBS by 2.11 Million Total Viewers and 440,000 Adults 25-54

For the week of March 7, 2011, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 8.32 million Total Viewers and a 1.8 rating/7 share/2.29 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.  For the second week in a row, “World News” saw increases over the year-ago week in both Total Viewers (+5%) and Adults 25-54 (+5%).

On 3/11/11, with “World News” covering the earthquake and tsunami in the Pacific, the broadcast  saw its most-watched Friday telecast (8.70 million) in over 1 year and largest Adults 25-54 audience (2.62 million) in over 2 years – since 1/8/10 and 1/16/09, respectively.

“World News” outperformed “CBS Evening News” by 2.11 million viewers and by 440,000 Adults 25-54 last week.  “World News” increased its lead over the CBS program by +16% in Total Viewers and by +38% in the key adult news demo versus the same week last year (1.82 million & 320,000, respectively on 3/8/10).

Friday’s broadcast was a special edition of “World News” covering the disaster in the Pacific – the aftermath of the record-breaking earthquake and devastating tsunami. In addition, last week “World News” featured Jake Tapper’s exclusive interview with Ben Affleck and Cindy McCain. The broadcast also continued its “Made in America” series with reporting from David Muir.
