Ratings Report for ABC News’ “This Week with Christiane Amanpour” For Sunday, April 3, 2011

“THIS WEEK WITH CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR” GROWS +4% IN TOTAL VIEWERS AND +19% IN ADULTS 25-54  WEEK-TO-WEEK

 

“THIS WEEK” PLACES SECOND IN KEY ADULTS 25-54 DEMOGRAPHIC

 

“THIS WEEK” IMPROVES +8% IN TOTAL VIEWERS AND +22% IN A25-54 YEAR-TO-YEAR

 

On April 3, 2011, ABC News’ “This Week with Christiane Amanpour” drew 2.35 million Total Viewers and 890,000 Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.  “This Week” improved week to week in both Total Viewers (+4% – 2.35 million vs. 2.27 million) and Adults 25-54 (+19% – 890,000 vs. 750,000).  In fact, “This Week” stood as the only Sunday public affairs program to grow over its week ago performance in both viewers and Adults 25-54 (CBS’ “Face the Nation” was down -3% and up +2%, respectively; NBC’s “Meet the Press” decreased by -13% and -23%, respectively).

 

“This Week” built on its year-ago numbers in both Total Viewers (+8% – 2.35 million vs. 2.17 million) and Adults 25-54 (+22% – 890,000 vs. 730,000), growing over its year-ago performances for the 6th time in the last 7 weeks. 

 

“This Week” stood as the No. 2 public affairs program in the key adult news demographic on Sunday, topping CBS’ “Face the Nation” by +40,000 Adults 25-54 viewers (890,000 vs. 850,000).

 

On Sunday, Senators Charles Schumer (D-NY) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL) joined ABC News’ “This Week” anchor Christiane Amanpour to discuss whether a deal to slash spending will keep the government open for business amidst the looming threat of a government shutdown. Former National Security Advisor Gen. James Jones, Jr. (Ret.), now a Senior Fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center, also sat down with Ms. Amanpour to assess the conflict in Libya and whether an international military intervention is the right strategy.

 

ABC News’ George Will, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Torie Clarke, Paul Krugman of The New York Times, and David Ignatius of The Washington Post joined Ms. Amanpour for a roundtable discussion on the “Obama Doctrine” and the current state of the U.S. economy.

 

Christiane Amanpour is the anchor of “This Week.” The program airs Sundays on the ABC Television Network.
