“GMA” Narrows Year-to-Year Total Viewing Gap with NBC’s “Today” for 9th Consecutive Week  

“GMA” Posts Second Largest Total Viewer Advantage Over CBS’ “Early Show” in 4 Years and Second Widest A25-54 Advantage in 2 Years

“GMA” Continues to Grow in Total Viewers Year-to-Year and Season-to-Date: Marking 17 Consecutive Weeks of Year-to-Year Growth in Total Viewers

“Good Morning America” averaged 5.136 million Total Viewers and a 1.6/11/1.960 million in Adults 25-54 for the week of May 2, 2011.  Retaining 90% of the previous week’s season-high Total Viewer audience and 91% in Adults 25-54, “GMA” drew its 2nd-largest overall weekly audience in 8 weeks and 2nd-best Adults 25-54 performance in 13 weeks – since w/o 3/7/11 and w/o 1/31/11.  

On Monday (5/2/11) with Robin Roberts reporting live from Ground Zero in New York City, the special "Target Bin Laden: The Death of Public Enemy #1" edition of "GMA," “GMA” attracted 5.975 million Total Viewers and 2.315 million in Adults 25-54, marking the ABC morning news program’s  3rd strongest telecast of the season, behind only the telecasts covering the royal wedding (4/29/11) and Japan’s earthquake and tsunami (3/11/11).  Further, “GMA” saw its most-watched Monday telecast in over 5 years and best Adults 25-54 Monday audience in over 2 years – since 2/6/06 and 2/23/09, respectively.   

For the 2nd week in a row, “GMA” improved on the same week last year in both Total Viewers (+15%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%).  Additionally, the ABC program extended its year-over-year growth in Total Viewers to 17 straight weeks. 

Season to date, “GMA” is up the most among the network morning news programs in Total Viewers (+8%) compared to its year-ago average (NBC’s “Today” is down -1%, CBS’ “Early Show” is up +2%). “GMA” is attracting is largest audience in 3 years – since the 2007-2008 season. 

“GMA” narrowed its Total Viewer margin with NBC’s “Today” from the same week last year (-12% – 821,000 vs. 937,000) for the 9th week in a row. 

 “GMA” outperformed CBS’ “Early Show” by 2.456 million Total Viewers and by 864,000 Adults 25-54, representing “GMA’s” 2nd largest advantages of the season over the CBS program.  In fact, “GMA” produced its 2nd-largest Total Viewer margin over CBS’ “Early Show” in nearly 4 years and its 2nd-widest Adults 25-54 lead in over 2 years – since w/o 5/21/07 and w/o 3/30/09, respectively. 

Emmy Award-winning “GMA,” featuring the anchor team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion and Josh Elliott, airs live Mon.-Fri. (7:00-9:00 a.m., ET) on ABC. James Goldston is senior executive producer and Tom Cibrowski is executive producer.
