“GMA” Posts Smallest Weekly Total Viewer Margin with NBC’s “Today” in Over 3 ½ Years  

“GMA” Posts Smallest Season-to-Date Total Viewer Gap with NBC in 4 Years

“GMA” is Attracting its Largest Audience in 4 Years – Since the 2006/07 Season

 “GMA” Continues to Grow in Total Viewers and Demo Year-to-Year and Season-to-Date:

Marking 28 Consecutive Weeks of Year-to-Year Growth in Total Viewers

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” averaged 4.411 million Total Viewers and a 1.3/11/1.668 million in Adults 25-54 during the week of July 18, 2011.  “GMA” improved on its year-earlier numbers in both Total Viewers (+14%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%) for the 13th week in a row.  “GMA” turned in the strongest growth year-to-year among the three network morning news programs in both overall viewers and in the key adult news demo.  Additionally, “GMA” extended its year-over-year Total Viewer improvement to 28 straight weeks, and to 41 of 44 weeks overall this season. 

Season to date, “GMA” is up the most among the network morning news programs in Total Viewers (+10%) versus its year-ago average (NBC’s “Today” is up +1%; CBS’ “Early Show” is up +1%), attracting its largest audience in 4 years – since the 2006-2007 season. “GMA” is also up season-to-date among Adults 25-54 (+2%). 

“GMA” narrowed its weekly gaps with NBC’s “Today” in Total Viewers (-8% – 416,000 vs. 453,000) and Adults 25-54 (-13% – 496,000 vs. 572,000).  In fact, “GMA” posted its smallest Total Viewer margin with “Today” in over 3 1/2 years – since w/o 10/29/07.  Additionally, for the 6th week in a row, “GMA” cut its margin with the NBC morning program versus the year-ago week by double digits in Total Viewers (-49% – 416,000 vs. 812,000).

“GMA” has lowered its year-ago Total Viewer margin with the NBC program in 39 of 44 weeks of the season to date.  In addition, “GMA” cut its total viewer gap season-to-date by double-digits (-31%), posting its smallest Total Viewer gap with the NBC program in 4 years – since the 2006-07 season.   

For the 5th time in as many weeks, “GMA” outperformed CBS’ “Early Show” by triple-digits in Total Viewers (+101% – 4.411 million vs. 2.194 million) and Adults 25-54 (+102% – 1.668 million vs. 826,000).  

Emmy Award-winning “GMA,” featuring the anchor team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott, airs live Mon.-Fri. (7:00-9:00 a.m., ET) on ABC. James Goldston is senior executive producer and Tom Cibrowski is executive producer.
