“ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” Narrows Weekly Total Viewing Gap with “NBC Nightly News” by 23% – Cuts Weekly Gap to 605,000 Viewers

On Thursday, “ABC World News” was the #1 Evening Newscast Among Total Viewers

Year-to-Year, “ABC World News” Grows Total Viewing Audience for the 24th Consecutive Week

Season-to-Date, ABC’s Newscast Growing its Overall Audience More than the Competition

During the week of August 1, 2011, with the debate over the nations fiscal house center stage and David Muir reporting on the famine in Africa, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.27 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/6 share/1.84 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research“World News” improved on its year-ago performance by 6% among Total Viewers, extending its growth over the year-earlier week to 24 consecutive weeks.

On Thursday (8/4/11), “ABC World News” ranked as the No. 1 evening newscast.  The ABC newscast outperformed “NBC Nightly News” by 133,000 Total Viewers (7.420 million vs. 7.287 million).  “ABC World News” narrowed its Total Viewer margin with “NBC Nightly News” from the previous week by -23% (605,000 vs. 781,000).

"ABC World News” outperformed “CBS Evening News” by 1.71 million viewers and by 266,000 Adults 25-54.

Season to date, “World News” is up the most among its network evening news competition compared to a year-ago in Total Viewers (+3%) – NBC and CBS are both up by +2%.

Note: Diane Sawyer broadcasted from Washington, D.C. on Monday 8/1/11 and was on assignment Thursday (8/4/11) and Friday (8/5/11). David Muir anchored “World News” on Thursday and Friday.
