“GMA” Cuts Season-to-Date Total Viewing Gap with “Today” by -46% and Demo Gap by -38%

 For the 8th Consecutive Week, “GMA” Narrows Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with “Today” Year-to-Year and Season-to-Date

“GMA” Hits Season Highs in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54

“GMA” Increases Most Among Total Viewers and Stands as Only Morning Program to Grow in Demo Year-to-Year and Season-to-Date

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” hit season highs in both Total Viewers (5.165 million) and Adults 25-54 (1.7/11/2.016 million) for the week of November 7, 2011.  In fact, “GMA” drew its largest overall audience in over 5 months and strongest Adults 25-54 number in over 6 months – since w/o 5/23/11 and w/o 4/25/11, respectively. 

For the 8th time in 8 weeks this season, “GMA” built on the same week last year in Total Viewers (+9%) and Adults 25-54 (+13%). “GMA” improved the most year to year in Total Viewers and stood as the only morning newscast to grow in the key adult news demo (NBC’s “Today” was up by +5% and down by -2%, respectively; CBS’ “Early Show” was down -4% and -1%, respectively).

On Wednesday (11/9/11), “Good Morning America” saw its most-watched telecast (5.448 million) in over 5 months - since 5/25/11.

For the 8th straight week this season, “GMA” decreased its margins from the year-ago week with “Today” by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-14% – 815,000 vs. 943,000) and Adults 25-54 (-34% – 522,000 vs. 796,000).  Season to date, “GMA” narrowed its gaps in both Total Viewers (-46%) and Adults 25-54 (-38%) versus its year-ago season gaps, posting its smallest margins (516,000 and 487,000, respectively) with “Today” in 4 years – since the 2007-08 season.

“GMA” topped CBS’ “Early Show” by 2.399 million Total Viewers (5.165 million vs. 2.766 million) and by 855,000 Adults 25-54 (2.016 million vs. 1.161 million), delivering its largest Total Viewer advantage in 4 months - since w/o 7/11/11.

Season to date “GMA” is up the most among the network morning news programs in Total Viewers (+13%), and is the only morning program to grow in Adults 25-54 (+13%) versus its year-ago averages (NBC’s “Today” is up +2% and down -3%, respectively; CBS’ “Early Show” is down -6% and -7%, respectively).  “GMA” is seeing its largest overall season audience in 4 years – since the 2007-08 season.

Emmy Award-winning “GMA,” featuring the anchor team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott, airs live Mon.-Fri. (7:00-9:00 a.m., ET) on ABC. James Goldston is senior executive producer and Tom Cibrowski is executive producer.
