“GMA” Cuts Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with NBC’s “Today” by Double-Digits Season-to-Date and Year-to-Year

  "GMA" Only Morning Program to Grow Year-to-Year in Total Viewers and Demo

 

ABC News' "Good Morning America" drew 4.863 Total Viewers and 1.6/11/1.958 million Adults 25-54 for the week of November 28, 2011. Building its Adults 25-54 performance week to week by +5% (1.859 for w/o 11/21/11), "GMA" posted its 2nd-best news demo performance this season - since w/o 9/19/11.

For the 11th time in as many weeks this season, "GMA" improved on the same week last year in both Total Viewers (+6%) and Adults 25-54 (+11%). "GMA" stood as the only morning newscast to grow year to year in either Nielsen measure (NBC's "Today" was down -2% and -8%, respectively; CBS' "Early Show" was down -11% and -18%, respectively).    

 

For the 2nd week in a row, "GMA" decreased its Adults 25-54 gap week to week with "Today" (-5% - 463,000 vs. 488,000), turning in its smallest news demo margin in 4 weeks - since w/o 10/31/11 For the 11th week running this season, "GMA" cut its year-to-year margins with "Today," slashing its margins by -38% in Total Viewers (673,000 vs. 1.081 million) and by -46% in Adults 25-54 (463,000 vs. 855,000).   Season to date, "GMA" narrowed its gaps in both Total Viewers (-42%) and Adults 25-54 (-38%) versus its year-ago season gaps, posting its smallest margins (549,000 and 491,000, respectively) with "Today" in 4 years - since the 2007-08 season.

"GMA" nearly doubled the performance of CBS' "Early Show" in both Total Viewers (+94% - 4.863 million vs. 2.502 million) and Adults 25-54 (+97% - 1.958 million vs. 993,000), delivering its largest news demo lead (965,000) over the "Early Show" in 7 months - since w/o 4/25/11.

 

Season to date "GMA" is up the most among network morning news programs in Viewers (+11%), and is the only morning program to grow in Adults 25-54 (+12%) versus year-ago averages (NBC's "Today" is up +2% and down -4%, respectively; CBS' "Early Show" is down -7% and -9%, respectively). "GMA" is seeing its largest overall season audience in 4 years, since the 2007-08 season.
