Year-to-Year, ABC Slashes Gap with NBC among Adults 25-54 by 23%  

Season-to-Date, "ABC World News" Narrows the Viewership Gaps with  "NBC Nightly News" by Double-Digits Among Both Total Viewers by 15% and Adults 25-54 by 22%  

For the week of January 23, 2012, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 8.23 million Total Viewers and a 1.8 rating/6 share/2.21 million among Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.   "World News" scored its most-watched telecast of the season on Monday (9.11 million - 1/23/12) .  In fact, it was the ABC evening newscast's most-watched regular telecast in 11 months - since 2/28/11.

"World News"  cut its week-to-week margins with "NBC Nightly News" by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-43% - 1.03 million vs. 1.80 million) and Adults 25-54 (-40% - 361,000 vs. 600,000).

"World News" decreased its Adults 25-54 gap with "NBC Nightly News" compared to the year-ago week by -23% (361,000 vs. 466,000).  This represents the 12th time in the last 13 weeks that "World News" has cut its year-earlier gaps with the NBC program in the key adult news demo.

"World News" has cut its season-to-date gaps with "NBC Nightly News" by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-15%) and Adults 25-54 (-22%), posting its smallest Total Viewer (987,000) and news demo margins (340,000) with the NBC program in 3 years - since the 2008-09 season.

"ABC World News" outperformed the "CBS Evening News" by 1.54 million Total Viewers and by 175,000 Adults 25-54, posting its largest margins over the CBS program in 4 weeks - since w/o 12/26/11.

Note : Due to President Obama's State of the Union Address, "World News" was re-titled "Wrld News Tonite" on Tuesday 1/24/12; ratings were excluded from the average.  "Nightly News" and "Evening News" are based on 5 days.

"ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" airs at 6:30 p.m., (ET) on the ABC Television Network.  Michael Corn is the executive producer of the broadcast.
