The police have not brought charges? I live in the central valley and that is no surprise to me. The kids are expected to be disciplined by their parents, the same parents they have been with and this happened in their watch.
Once again the national media has slanted a story. Locally, we found out that the parent did NOT ask how the teacher was; the parent went to the school BOASTING that her kid saved a teacher. This was attempted assault if not attempted murder. Our wonderful Fresno Police Department is letting this slide; these kids will end up hurting someone because NO ONE has given them any consequences.

@NEWUNION
I dont see how prayer will help the situation.
Also, the consitution demands wall of seperation between the church and state.
Teaching kids prayer in school is contrary to that.

LOL not sure what prayer has to do with anything.The Janitors union would be all over you for taking a job away from a union employee. Garbage detail around the school is a good idea, but from the sounds of it, these kids don't do anything they are told as it is, and I fear the concept of shame no longer exists.

“Something has to be done and this is a prime place to start insuring teacher safety and student accountability.”

How about re-instating prayer back into the school system as mandate and if a child examples him or herself in any vulgar manor , the parent has three hours to retrieve the child or it is taken by the school truant officer to juvenile detention downtown to where the parents can process and bail their child out and the child can go before a Juvenile Judge , being assigned to do community service at their school picking up school ground garbage and helping the janitors after school wax the hallway floors , i`m sure all their little friends that they entertained in the classroom will catch on quickly how the system works and what real life consequences are.

The final statement by the FTA President were right on the mark. As a native of Fresno, CA and someone who went to Fresno Unified schools, graduating from Hoover High School in 2003, I can tell you that the discipline of students within the district is crap. It was bad when I was going to school and its even worse now. Its gotten so bad that my best friend's dad, who was physical education teacher at Hoover High School, retired rather than staying for a few extra years because he couldn't handle the outrageous attitudes of the students. When he would ask them to stop talking they would tell him to "F" off and so on. Its a crappy school district. When they would do outdoor activities and would slack off, they would flip him off when he would ask them to participate.
