Ratings: “ABC World News” Cuts Total Viewer Gap with “NBC Nightly News” by 12% and Demo Gap by 20% Year-to-Year

Season-to-Date, “ABC World News” Narrows Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with “NBC Nightly News” to Smallest Margin in 3 Years

For the week of January 30, 2012, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 8.03 million Total Viewers and a 1.7 rating/6 share/2.09 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Year-to-Year “World News” cut the viewing gaps with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits among both Total Viewers (-12% – 1.29 million vs. 1.47 million) and Adults 25-54 (-20% – 503,000 vs. 632,000).  This marks the 13th time in the last 14 weeks that “World News” has narrowed its news demo gap with the NBC program from the same week last year.

“World News” has cut its season-to-date gaps with “NBC Nightly News” by double-digits in both Total Viewers (-15%) and Adults 25-54 (-21%), posting its smallest Total Viewer (1.00 million) and news demo margins (348,000) with the NBC program in 3 years – since the 2008-09 season.

“ABC World News” outperformed the “CBS Evening News” by 1.50 million Total Viewers and 102,000 Adults 25-54.

“ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” airs at 6:30 p.m., (ET) on the ABC Television Network.  Michael Corn is the executive producer of the broadcast.
