And that is how corporations look after us.

If a product looks too cheap, or if a corporation is making a lot of profit. Then investigate. Is the product true? Is the labor fair?

You are voting every time you make a purchase!

Do you think the 700 workers at the pink slime plants eat the pink slime? They even knew what products had the nasty pink slime in it. Why did 700 scumbag people do nothing to alert the public about the nasty pink slime for so many years? I feel that that I have been poisoned unknowingly by these nasty people. I wish that I could vomit all of this crap back up that I ate for years. Why is pink slime made in the USA? There had to be some under the table money that floated around. Who would really think that pink slime was good to eat. I am glad to see the end of this industry.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for being the one to expose pink slime and bring it to the forefront of our national consciousness. This substance has been a closely guarded secret, a poisoning of our people perpetrated by corporate agriculture against us for way too long.

Please continue to drive the point that pink slime is an abomination of nature -- it does not deserve to be called food or beef -- and it's safety is questionable.

An industry-funded study might indicate that pink slime isn't fatal--you won't die overnight However, what about the autism, behavioral problems, rising obesity, rising cancer rates in the US that have coincided with the introduction and proliferation of pink slime.?

In Europe, food companies do not poison their fellow countrymen with products of questionable safety. And public officials ban any substance whose safety is questioned. Only here in the US, does industry and government experiment on their own people--how unpatriotic.

Please continue the fight. If people do not focus on this, they focus on something else, and pink slime will insidiously make its way back into our food chain. It's unfortunate the 2,000 illegal aliens may lose their jobs at pink slime factories, but there is much more at stake.

I don't know if this thought has crossed your mind, but Iowa Governor Terry Branstad's resistance and attempts to perpetuate a cover up -- siding with big business rather than the health and freedom of knowledge -- is deplorable. Have you considered petitioning for a recall election.

Wow, where to start on the un-true facts in this article. First off it is not "pink slime" it is lean finely textured ground beef. It is 95% lean meat with 5% fat while regular ground hamburger is around 85% meat and 15% fat. It has less fat in it so it is healthier and this is what consumer are asking for is leaner beef with less fat in it. It is added to hambureger to make it leaner and have a lower fat content.
How it is made. When a cow is sluaghtered that carcass is cooled in a freezer in oreder to prevent the growth of bacteria. Then your cuts of meat are removed such as roasts and steaks. When you cut these pieces of meat you trim off excess fat and meat. Those trimmings are what goes into lean finely textured ground beef. There is nothing wrong with the meat. Those trimmings are then heated up to the same temperature as a live cows body temperature since they are cold. They are not simmered!!! That would then make it a partially cooked product. If heating it to the temperature of a live cow is simmering then we are all simmering inside our bodies as you are reading this. They heat the trimmings up to the temperature of a live cow to make it easy to seperate the meat from the fat. Then the meat goes through a machine that spins the trimmings to seperate the meat and the fat. Meat comes out one place while fat comes out another. That meat is then ground up just like hamburger. The only difference between it and hamburger is there is less fat in it and it has a finer texture. Then a small amount, "light puff" of ammonia hydroxide is applied to the beef to kill bacteria on the meat such as ecoli. There is more ammonia in cheese and tofu than in the meat you eat on a daily basis, There is ammonia in fruits and vegetables aslo. This is a safe process!!! Extensive research has been done over the past 20 years on this process.
It is not a filler it is beef. Beef is beef.
The U.S. has one of the safest food food supplies in the world and some of the lowest prices.
Around 800 million pounds of beef would be wasted if it was not used in lean finely textured beef. So by not using trimmings in lean finely textured beef we would be wasting a lot of perfectly good beef which will raise the costs of food and make us even more wasteful as a nation than we already are.
As for the amount of money Joann Smith made at here job. Why is that important at all? 1.2 million over 17 years is not a huge amount. That is around 70,500 a year without taxes. There are many people that make a lot more in one year than she did over 17 years.
It is a safe product. If companies would of have labelled it as lean finely textured beef they would of been breaking federal law. The government states what can be printed on food labels.

Quit being dumb sheeps and believing and following the media. They will report anything they can that will get people riled up and have ratings. Do your own research. Find out the truth and facts!!!

Shame on ABC News for this -"Sprayed with Ammonia"? It's NOT sprayed with ammonia - it is processed with a puff of AMMONIUM HYDROXIDE - NOT AMMONIA - of course, what else would I expect from a news organization that does not originate from the Midwest (where this process is done)?

Sensationalism. This process has been around for years and as for the ammonia, as stated earlier, it is a process utilized in many different foods including pudding! I wonder how many cases of e-coli this filler has prevented and how many e-coli death lawsuits Kroger will endure once they serve unprotected hamburger. Shame on ABC for sensationalism, shame on Kroger for bowing down to this sensationalism.

Ok - several things to go over here from a rabid carnivore:

1) Beef is NOT healthy; not in almost any form, pink slime or otherwise. Your body can process and derive nutritional value from it; but you can also derive nutritional value from tree bark and poison ivy. Beef is NOT healthy. 'Healthier' is also a stupid term. 'Healthier' beef is beef burned to a charcoal briquette.

2) You want to blame a Party or Administration? Ok - you can blame the Democrats for creating interest-based liberalism during the Great Depression (The End of Liberalism, T. Lowi) and 'mostly' Republicans for being smart enough to profiteer from the system since the 70's.

3) The meat industry is the largest U.S. agriculture industry and by far the biggest employer in the country with beef exports representing over $50B in exports. No Administration tries to take on this industry and no Party is suicidal enough to try.

4) Lamb, Beef, Pork, and Chicken provide you with protein and saturated fats. That is their major nutritional contribution. Zinc, Potassium, etc, also found in meats are not significant sources and are derived from genetically modified corn (also grown on pure ammonium nitrate fertilizer) that the vast majority of cattle are fed.

5) Beef is not, never has been, and barring a major evolutionary change in human biology, never WILL be healthy. Stop with this insipidly stupid line of thought. We like meat because it tastes great! Most fillers, like pink slime, do not. There is your consumer outrage. If bratwursts didn't taste great anymore, we'd be in fury about the fillers in that, too!
