Let us get real; we are the most well fed people in the world, as evidenced by our obesity. We have the best health care in the world. Yet we have more food related sicknesses then any other so-called first world countries. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU AMERICA!! We the people need to stand up and say stop or sit down and allow ourselves to be "poised to death" with all these cancer causing agents in our food. U really believe this stuff will not harm u in the long run? Well just remember they once said cigarettes were not harmful. WAKE UP !!!

No wonder the numbers of cancer patients is growing. Who knows what other kinds of diseases or illnesses may be caused from this! This is not acceptable. We need to challenge the FDA to have this information on product labels! Absolutely disgusting!!!!

Keep your eyes open for the next "filler" to come. The USDA announced a few months ago that horse meat is now allowed again for human consumption. I personally believe that is the only reason why we found out about the pink slime.

This is a slanderous attack on one of the safest food companies doing business. ABC news got their HEADLINE but they used misleading terms and did not use food science in their story. This is typical shoot from the hip journalism and we are all the worst for it. ABC news just dropped to the bottom as far as creditabilty. I would eat LFTB and I would also let my kids and grandkids eat LFATB, that is as high of a reccomendaton that I can give a product.

Don't be afraid to ask your grocery butcher to grind a steak or whole piece of beef you purchase. Most will provide trimming services as a free courtesy.

Of note, after ABC's extensive coverage of the issue regarding 'pink slime' I dashed off a letter late last night to Stop & Shop. You will be happy to know they they've just decided to discontinue usage of the product, due to customer concern and pressure.

Their reply to me is copied below:

In response to your recent inquiry, we wanted to let you know that Stop & Shop will no longer be
purchasing fresh ground beef containing Finely Textured Beef (FTB).

While the U.S. Department of Agriculture has indicated this product is safe for consumption and
complies with all applicable standards for lean beef, many of our customers have voiced concern
regarding Finely Textured Beef. We value the trusted relationship we have with our customers
and their feedback on this issue.

It will take several weeks to sell through our current inventory but we will post signs in our
meat department so you will know when it is available. In the meantime, as an alternative we
offer Nature's Promise, Laura's Lean or Certified Angus Beef products as these products do not
contain FTB.

We appreciate your taking the time to share your concerns with us. We value your feedback and
look forward to serving you in the future.

Sincerely,

Deborah Riley
Supervisor, Consumer Affairs

So many people here just start assuming that Walmart, McDonalds, etc are all serving up pink slime. Before you assume, why not do the research and find out for sure. If you assume, then you assume that the nicer supermarket/burger joint must be better and whoaaaa.....they sever pink slime. Don't be a fool. If you cannot research it, then you don't care enough so just eat the pink slime and enjoy being lazy. To just blindly point a finger at the big companies is just lazy. McDonalds announced that pink slime was off the menu. What do you want - they listened, they reacted. I like that in a company. Walmart - I can't speak to the beef but I know they quit selling rBGH milk years ago. What's your supermarket selling you to soak your cereal with? Do us all a favor and buy local - support the farmer in your area. Buy what's in season. Learn to adapt. And if you want to gripe, don't gripe to the McD's and Walmarts - how about take the USDA and all the related cronie branches to task. That's where the issues are. Ask them how many meat inspections they did in 2011 vs 20 years ago. And how many e-coli scares were there 20 years ago? You'll find a pattern. Also, who sits in the top seats of the USDA and such? Where'd those suits work before? Hmmmm. Do yourself a favor and do the research. Watch the movie "Food Inc" if you think all is well on your dinner plate.

This is just plain greed and nothing more. THERE SHOULD BE A LAW THAT ALL PRODUCTS MUST DESCRIBE EXACTLY WHAT IS IN EVERYTHING WE EAT AND NOT JUST LABEL IT (BEEF BY PRODUCTS) This is not what I or anyone else is paying these over inflated prices for in the first place. Lets stand together and put a complete stop to this ASAP for our health and our children's. health.

not sure how I feel about this. 1. nothing goes to waste = good. 2. no requirement to label it's presence = bad. 3. mad cow disease/bone scrapings = very bad, if true. 4. cheap protein = good. i'd buy butcher meat anyway. As there is obviously concern about the stuff, labelling must be the answer, and let us decide with our wallets?
