When a yellow Labrador was struck and killed on a busy street in La Puente, Calif., last Wednesday, a female black Labrador stood guard over the fallen dog.

A motorist spotted the dogs on the street, and put down traffic cones to alert other drivers. He then shot a video of the pair, which shows the black Labrador sitting next to and then circling the motionless yellow Labrador in the middle of a traffic lane as vehicles drive by.

The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care says the staff named the 2-year-old dog Grace. No one claimed her, so she was put up for adoption and has already been taken in by a human in need of a loyal friend.
