We keep voting in the same two groups of sorry S.O.B.’s then whine about everything that’s wrong with this country while the rest of the world gets more and more irritated with us. If you want a change, you have to change what you’re doing! If you really value this country, start looking back at the examples the Founding Fathers set. Which DOES include God, firearms and no party system.

Neil, you were definitely on the right track with your comments about the materials and friction/heat. However, we could use the best materials in the universe but if it’s not attached and held more proficiently, it will make no difference at those speeds.

Even though there’s not really a realistic use just yet for this aircraft in our (USA) arsenal the potential of achieving some breakthroughs in aerodynamics, propulsion, etc., is what’s funding this project.

How do you deliver a payload at Mach 20? It’s not like you can open bomb bay doors or roll the window down. It’s cool but is it more cost effective than an old fashioned ICBM?

people people stop talking about politics, at least darpa was even able to construct an aircraft to go mach 20 all the need is better skin for thier craft i am quite glad that it even flew at all

Don’t care about your politics people, but will comment on the craft.
They tried to use a Radar Absorbant Material on the skin, which is fine, however the friction burned it off. Something that should have been considered. Most RAM is good quality, however this type of material could not handle the heat. There are virtually no moving parts in this craft. The only thing that can hurt it is heat, and the dissipation of it. This is not a skin issue, its a engineering issue with heat dissipation. If they fix that then they can still use the RAM they used. One or the other is going to have to be resolved. This was actually a great test to see what did not work, and what did. The next craft should be much better. Another stepping stone into the future.
