"ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" Grows Total Viewing and Demo Audiences Most  Among Evening Newscasts, Week-to-Week  

ABC Cuts Total Viewing and Demo Gaps with NBC by Double-Digits, Week-to-Week  

"ABC World News" Slashes Demo Gap with "NBC Nightly News" by More than Half, Year-to-Year

For the week of April 23, 2012, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.31 million Total Viewers and a 1.6 rating/6 share/1.95 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research.  Building on the prior week in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%) to hit 7-week highs (best since w/o 3/5/12) , "World News" grew the most week-to-week among the evening news broadcast in both Nielsen measures ("NBC Nightly News:" -2%/up less than +1%; "CBS Evening News:" flat/-2%).

Week-to-week, "World News" closed both the Total Viewing (-28% - 885,000 vs. 1.23 million) and demo (-19% - 255,000 vs. 316,000) gaps with "NBC Nightly News" - posting its smallest news demo margin with "Nightly News" in 6 weeks - since w/o 3/12/12.

Year-to-year, "World News" slashed its news demo gap with the NBC program by more than half (-58% - 255,000 vs. 610,000).   In fact, "World News" has decreased its year-over-year Adults 25-54 gap with "Nightly News" by double-digits for the 8th straight week and in 9 of the last 10.

Season-to-date for the 2nd year in a row, "World News" has narrowed the gap with "NBC Nightly News" among Adults 25-54 (-22%), posting its smallest news demo margin (364,000) with the NBC program in 3 years - since the 2008-09 season.

"World News" outperformed the "CBS Evening News" by 1.53 million Total Viewers and by 320,000 Adults 25-54, delivering its largest Total Viewer lead over the CBS program in 3 months - since w/o 1/23/12.
