Boy Stabbed Pal During X-box Game

Two Oakland, Calif., friends were playing an X-box game at their respective homes when something provoked one boy, 17, to go to his lifelong pal's house and attack him with a gun and a knife, said Jimmy Lee, Costa County Police representative.

Lee says police arrived on the scene Monday afternoon after getting a phone call from Sherri Kemp, mother of the 20-year-old victim, reporting a fight that broke out in her home at 1500 block of Yosemite Circle.

"He came in to kill him," Kemp said. "I was standing at the top of the stairway and he was walking up with the gun. He shoved me and my son came down to where I was at. [The suspect] shot and aimed at him."

Lee confirmed that the victim was not hit by the gunfire but was stabbed "multiple times." He was then transported by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and released last night.

After a police chase through the backyards of the suspect's neighborhood, he is now in custody at a juvenile hall and awaiting trial for attempted murder, said Lee.

Kemp noted that the two were like cousins, and had known each other their whole lives. While the suspect has been known to have anger issues, this is the first time he has acted out against Kemp's family.

The identities of the victim and suspect are being withheld by police.
