A Baton Rouge, La., teenager who was traveling with her church group was shot in the knee when a gunman allegedly opened fire in a Aurora, Colo., movie theater.
The parents of Bonnie Kate Pourciau, 18, are headed to Colorado to be with their daughter, family pastor Scott Lindsey told ABC News. Lindsey said he is staying at the Pourciau residence to look after her siblings.
Pourciau was shot in the knee in the shooting when James Holmes, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Colorado, allegedly set off smoke bombs and opened fire on the unsuspecting audience. Pourciau was with her friend Elizabeth Sumrall, who posted to her Facebook wall before the shooting, “Going to see The Dark Knight Rises in Colorado with BonnieKate Pourciau!”
John Sumrall, the grandfather of Elizabeth Sumrall, who was not injured, confirmed that Pourciau was shot in the knee.
Pourciau is in surgery while her family travels to Colorado to be with her, ABC News Baton Rouge affiliate WBRZ reported.
