The face and body of a Brazilian woman visiting Miami was left scraped and scabbed after she was dragged by the vehicle of a robber who had just snatched her purse in a store parking lot.
Maria Penna Misk, who is visiting Miami to see members of her family, was with her sister loading groceries into a car at a local Costco when a man ran up and snatched her purse – which contained her passport, along with her money and other credentials. She chased after the man, who quickly hopped into a car that had been waiting nearby.
“I asked him, ‘Please, give my passport — only my passport,’ and I put my hand inside the car,” Misk told ABC News Miami affiliate WPLG. ”[I was] mad, upset, it was a little bit shocking. I can’t believe that this happened to me … “They stole all my documents. My money … everything.”
The robber wasn’t willing to even give Misk her passport back, and he closed the car window on her arm. The car then took off, and Mish was dragged what police believe was 30 feet — scraping her face, knees and shoulders on the concrete as the thief escaped.
Misk said that the robber was a white male in his 30s or 40s and drove an older model, four-door, white sedan. North Miami Beach police are currently investigating the incident.
Misk told WPLG that she had her passport on her because she planned to return to her country that afternoon. Now she is now working with the Brazilian consulate to get a new passport so she is able to return home Friday.
