Season-to-Date, “ABC World News” is in Most Competitive Position in Three Years
For the week of July 9, 2012, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.01 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/6 share/1.77 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. For the 2nd time in the last 3 weeks, “World News” improved on its year-ago week performance in Total Viewers (6.94 million for w/o 7/11/11).
“World News” narrowed Adults 25-54 margin with “NBC Nightly News” year-to-year by -23% (339,000 vs. 441,000). “World News” has cut the year-ago demo gap with “Nightly News” in the last 6 weeks and in 18 of the last 19.
Season to date, “World News” is narrowing its gaps with “NBC Nightly News” in both Total Viewers (-6%) and Adults 25-54 (-28%), delivering its smallest Total Viewer (991,000) and news demo margins (350,000) with the NBC program in 3 years – since the 2008-09 season.
“World News” defeated the “CBS Evening News” by 1.24 million Total Viewers and by 46,000 Adults 25-54.
