On Monday, "ABC World News" Delivered its Most-Watched Newscast in 7 Months

ABC Newscast Slashes Total Viewing Gap with "NBC Nightly News" by 43% and Demo Gap by 28%, Year-to-Year

For the week of September 10, 2012, "ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" averaged 7.60 million Total Viewers and a 1.5 rating/6 share/1.83 million in Adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. "ABC World News" was up week-to-week in both Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 25-54 (+4%) - 7.41 million and 1.76 million, respectively, on w/o 9/3/12. Building its overall audience for the 5th week in a row, the ABC evening newscast drew its largest overall audience in more than 6 months - since w/o 2/27/12.

"World News" improved on the year-ago week in Total Viewers by +5% (7.25 million on w/o 9/12/11), standing as the only evening news program to grow its Total Viewer audience year-to-year - "NBC Nightly News" (-1%) and "CBS Evening News" (flat).

On Monday, "World News" delivered its most-watched telecast (9.10 million - 9/10/12) in 7 months - since 2/13/12.

For the 2nd straight week, "World News" cut its year-to-year gaps (w/o 9/12/11) with "NBC Nightly News" in both Total Viewers (-43% - 555,000 vs. 974,000) and Adults 25-54 (-28% - 322,000 vs. 450,000).

Season-to-date, "World News" is narrowing its gap with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 (-18%), delivering its smallest news demo margin (385,000) with the NBC program in 3 years - since the 2008-09 season.

"ABC World News" outperformed the "CBS Evening News" by 1.86 million Total Viewers and 294,000 Adults 25-54. It was "World News'" largest Total Viewer lead over the CBS program in nearly 1 year (since w/o 10/10/11) and 2nd largest overall of the season. In addition, "World News" posted its biggest news demo lead in more than 3 months - since w/o 5/21/12.

NOTE : On Monday, "CBS Evening News" did not air due to the men's final of the U.S. Open. CBS' weekly averages are based on 4 days (Tue-Fri). On Friday, David Muir anchored "World News."
