Bill wrote, “It’s sad that kids are so cruel these days.” Unfortunately, this is not new. Back in 1979 or 80, kids in my high school did the same thing to Anna Marie. She, too, thought it was a real nomination, then found out otherwise. I am ashamed to say that while my friends and I talked about it among ourselves (how awful it was), we did nothing to support her or protest the action.

I have a few corrections for this story. First, the high school is Ogemaw Heights High School, not Owega. And second, at this school, only seniors can be chosen for Homecoming Queen. In the video, you make it sound as if she lost the title. However, she was not eligible for the title. She was just a court member from the sophomore class. Other than that, great job on the story. This is a very heart-warming story to hear how she gained such a positive experience from something that started so negatively.

Okay, so… this is it? No therapy, no evidence of actual bullying, nothing? It’s really just a girl crying about being bullied to get people to worship her (when all things considered, I’m not sure they didn’t already worship her). If this is considered bullying, explain why the people that hurled slurs at me in the halls and drew insulting sexual pictures of me didn’t even get any consequences for that even when I spoke up about it (especially considering the latter was sexual harassment going by the handbook my school gave me), while an incident where some guys pulled a fairly harmless prank on this girl is getting media coverage all over the place and is regarded as such a horrible act. Seriously, this nation needs to recognize what actual bullying looks like and then focus on that, because all the actual bullying is being ignored in order to focus on trivial incidents like this that really shouldn’t even be getting coverage.

(For the record, I am lesbian and I’ve been out since my freshman year of high school, not even in a way where I paraded around about it; no, I didn’t dress in clothes that were remotely revealing, mostly because I had to wear my dad’s old clothes since I couldn’t afford much for new clothing.)

JA-LIN…. I too was bullied and ridiculed in school by the “cool” kids. At that young age, I never thought it would be any other way. And a year in childhood is forever. But I too blossomed as an adult; — and when I’d come across these people, I was amazed how they seemed like such harmless, dull, unattractive people.I would sometimes stare at them in disbelief that I’d ever somehow been under their spell; — and they too seemed to squirm in anxious, apologetic disbelief. Curiously, in their their uneasy demeanor, they acted as if we’d been friends in school. I’d not wish a cruel childhood on anyone, but I realize it has made me a better person in later life in ways too complex to describe.

The bullies are the real losers. The fact that, en masse, they pick on ONE individual? That׳s weak. Not the sign of a strong, confident person.

I was bullied in middle school. Guess what happened? I blossomed–great job, good looks, exciting life. Most of the bullies? Tied to jobs they hate, fat and boring.

High school is only 4 years. You’ll get through it even though it sucks right now. You’ll blossom, too–don’t let dumbtard bullies bring you down.

What I want to know is where are the jerks that played that prank on her? Whey haven’t they come out to apologize? Because they’re a bunch of cowards, that’s why. They are a bunch of little bits of nothing, and in order to make themselves feel like they are something, they picked on someone else. How do those kind of people live with themselves? They should be ashamed.
