This video capture the character of Cuomo; TV shot, world wide attention, the day after a Hurricane, little or no sleep and he doesn't stumle, his words are sure " we will build again - better" . The epitome of NY resiliance.

If Governor Cuomo is concerned about climate change and its tendency to produce more and larger storms, he should steer us away from fracking for natural gas. Natural gas is a fossil fuel and will add to the greenhouse effect via release of carbon dioxide when burned. Further, natural gas itself is at least 20 times more powerful than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas. Fracking will release natural gas to the atmosphere when leaks inevitably occur. We need to move toward renewable, sustainable fuels.

As global temperature climbs, the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as droughts, hurricanes, and floods, does, too. If Governor Cuomo is serious about addressing the risks associated with global climate change, he would permanently ban unconventional fossil fuel extraction in New York State and urge other states to follow suit. The planet cannot afford us dumping so much fossil carbon from methane, carbon dioxide, and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. We need to concentrate on re-building to withstand the damaging climate effects we have already wrought and to vastly increase energy efficiency. We also need to accelerate our shift to renewable energy - non-food-crop biofuels, wind, solar, biomass, wave, hydro, geothermal, advanced batteries - diversifying production for both small and large scale production with smartgrid technology to smooth out supply disruptions.

The last time the NY stock market was closed for two days by weather was 1888, when a blizzard struck. Many consider the rash of blizzards and exceptionally cold winters in that era to be the atmospheric aftereffects of the explosion of Krakatoa in 1883. The difference now is that the greenhouse gases we have poured into the atmosphere will have a much longer period of impact than the volcanic ash and dust did then.

Asking whether a particular climate event is due to global warming is like asking which of Barry Bonds' home runs were due to steroids. Yes, he hit home runs in previous seasons, but over the course of a season on steroids, he will hit more and he will hit them further. In the same way, with global warming we will have Sandy & Katrina-like events more often, and they will be worse.

It doesn't take a genius scientist to know that Manhattan is only a few feet above sea level, and if the ice caps continue to melt at their current rate, in the long term there's no saving that island. Personally I also don't think it takes a genius to realize that when you take 100 million years worth of sequestered carbon and pump it into the atmosphere within a few hundred years, the climate is going to change. In the end though, humans will adapt or die, like anything else.

Thank you Governor Cuomo and ABC News for making the connection between the intensity of this storm and global human-caused climate change. Hurricanes are nothing new, but the intensity and frequency of hurricanes (and droughts and other extreme weather events) are connected to human-caused climate change.

Memo to Dee: Romney proposes giving the FEMA 'cuts' to the states. What's wrong with that??
And the WH (OBAMA) sequestration actually does cut close to $900 to FEMA !
