He got a first hand look in the late 30's and began a plot to escape Germany with his family. Any how he moved here in 40' and naturalized the same year. Two months after Pearl he joined the Army (though he didn't have to). He went over to Europe and fought and the horror stories he told my old man later on after he and mom got married. But he never complained for what he did either, As he told the recruiters when they came to his door and said he didn't have to join because he was a newly citizen and protected from the draft. His reply, and he was proud of this," F You I'm no German I'm American". Later as a kid the one thing he told me was, Never goto start a fight if you're not in the right and most of all Never unless there's no reason or method left but to go towar. I salute all the old breed that goto the WW2 Monument and other wars (and yes even the conflicts) and served.. So I say Maybe its time for the Govt to cut their spending on Politicians Salaries and put a bit into helping these old vets have one last hurrah. they've earned it a lot more than any president or politician or aide has. My father was privileged to attend last year and the experience could not have been better. He was both truly excited to see these historical sites while being proud in knowing he was a part of it.
