Man-Eating Leopard Devours 15 So Far

A rogue leopard believed to have killed – and eaten – up to 15 villagers, including 10 small children over the past year is being hunted by Nepalese wildlife officials.

The severed head of the latest victim, a 4-year-old boy, was found on Saturday in a forested area nearly 400 miles west of the capital, Kathmandu.  The Kathmandu Post reported the boy was playing in the courtyard of his house when the leopard struck, killing the boy then dragging the body into the forest.  Police say at least one leopard with a taste for human flesh is on the loose, but that there could be others.

Last week, Nepalese officials offered a bounty of 25,000 rupees (approximately $280) for anyone who could bring in the animal dead or alive.  The bounty amounts to several months wages for an average Nepali villager.  Of the 15 victims so far, two-thirds are children from remote

What a beautiful animal!

Humans keep invading and populating the wild areas where these animals have hunted for centuries. Now all of their resources are either gone or being eaten by the humans. What did you expect? For these animals to starve? It’s survival of the fittest and it isn’t the humans in this case. In the end, the wild animals will once again rule the earth.

Oh, the kitty just loves people.

That sounds less like a leopard, and more like a serial killer. Did they check the kid’s bodies for signs of foul play that wasn’t caused by an animal?

Can we send a couple of those over to the Kardashian home?

Posted by: scott | November 5, 2012, 2:19 pm 2:19 pm

I THINK ITS A SERIAL KILLER MORE THAN A LEOPARD . AND WOW 280$ GEESH THATS ALOT . I THINK THEY NEED TO DO INVESTIGATING ON THE BODIES BEFORE SEARCHING FOR A ANIMAL WHO MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE DONE THIS

See, wild animals like this that prey on people should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Charged with murder and sentenced to life in prison. Then thrown in prison with all the other murderers…..think about it, think about it…ah you got it.

he is being hunted by officials for being what he is meant to be? Stupid humans we are. We can’t taunt animals then kill them when they strike back. Besides it could be a serial killer. Plus how would they know which leopard was the one eating people? Just tell your stupid civilians to stay away from wild animals! This is such an injustice to the animal world.

What a nice rug.

@TATL – I am not able to decide whether your posts are supposed to be sarcasm, or if you are that stupid enough infact. And no, in Nepal people might be stupid and poor, but it wouldn’t be a serial killer like you have in the developed countries.

A big cat can kill ya, but a little pussy never hurt anyone. I don’t think it’s fair to say humans have encroached on this cat’s territory. Nepal is remote. So, a remote village 400 miles from Kathmandu is really remote. Hmmmm, I wonder if Kathmandu means anything? Kat Man Du? Cat Man Eat?

With the bounty, there will be dozens of leopards killed regardless of whether they have killed a human.

Some very “SICK” people post on here.

Sad story and it will be sadder for the leopards in Nepal. However, with 15 dead it has to be stopped. All large predators should keep a healthy fear of humans, but humans don’t need to kill them all to dissaude them. I do believe that selective hunting would help reinforce a healthy fear of humans, the problem with humans is we always overdo things.

Leopards have to eat too.

“Leopards have to eat too.” Wonder if you tree hugging liberals would say that if YOUR child was killed and eaten.

I’d be very wealthy there! Maybe I should move and live with the leopards.

I’m waiting for the next news article: Leopard eating man eats 15 leopards and chokes on a furball.

Has absolutely nothing to do with invasion of habitat. Most likely the leopard is injured
in some way that makes him unable to hunt wild game, and so he has been hunting human prey. This is almost always the case with man-eating predators.

seem strange that this community is allowing the children to be un-attended knowing that there is killing going on rather by human or by animal….and why is it that not of the victims are male….so women and children only huh……I smell a rat….could this be some type of human scarafice, or offering to the animal…..but they want us to believe that this so called animal is being hunte….need I remind it said 10 are kids killed, the other five must me adult women.. ” is this come type of secret genocide coming in to play or what……If it is a animal stop letting kids and women be alone outside. set Up a trap like normal ppl do to catch something…..once again…..I smell a rat.

I would like to reiterate that this is a rural village. To say that they are invading this animal’s habitat is far fetched. Since the majority of you probably believe that we’re animals anyway then their plot to destroy this beast is defendable. It’s invading their habitat. They have as much right to pursue and kill it as it does them. You seem more concerned about the ruthless feline than the mutilated women and children. I’m certain you would stand by and defend the cat just as vehemently after finding the bloody remains of a dear family member on your doorstep.

Is it a plot and not an animal at all? I hardly think so. The men are likely working away from the home, leaving their families as very easy vulnerable prey to this cat.

Personally, I view man as a valuable being created in the image of God. Any creature, rather human or animal, that kills him deserves to die. The choice is made and the consequences are required.

This is a very tragic story, both for the children and this beautiful animal. I was taught you never track a leopard in it’s own territory; they are known to take down an entire envoy of hunters in the wood, one by one… That said, J. Mark Lane still gets the prize for best comment. Kudos!

So what are they going to do… ignorantly kill every leopard they ever see again? What else is new… :-/

I know at least 4 Cougars that devour 2-3 men every night!

Posted by: Nancy | November 6, 2012, 12:18 pm 12:18 pm

Heather Wright – If man is a creation of god, then so are the animals. I don’t believe he would ever consider us more important than the other billions of species of plants, animals, and insects out there. Besides, if there was a creator, he would not be in the form of a human, seeing as we did not exist forever.

Shalini Shrestha – wow couldn’t understand anything you said. Go back to school and learn how to write a proper sentence.

“What are these little brown things with no claws or teeth?

I don’t know, but they’re pink inside and they’re YUMMY!”

Posted by: Timothy | November 9, 2012, 12:35 pm 12:35 pm

LoL @ kat man du…in the Ewe language of West Africa the word ‘Du’ actually means ‘Eat’

but, on a serious note….if it doesnt attack adult males, and mostly attacks children…humans at all, for that matter…then it can only be because it is wounded and migrated to the settlement to pick off easier prey. It happens all the time. that village could have been anywhere else, it still would have happened.
