PEASHOOTER – you clearly don’t know much about cheerleading so I’ll enlighten you. College and high school cheerleaders also do shoulder stands/sits which was the stunt being performed, it’s VERY possible for them to also suffer mishaps and serious injuries like this one. “Professional” or not, accidents happen.

I think its time we protect our girls, they put a lot of time and training into entertaining us during halftimes and other boring periods of downtime. I hope this gal makes a full recovery as stated.

Geezstring, you are correct about 1 thing. Cheerleading is NOT a sport. which most squads have been fighting for, for along time. With this term of “sport” there comes better medical supervision and better regulations. Cheerleading is not what it was decades ago these kids are athletes, they work hard to achieve the skills they perform. I am proud to say that I am the mother of a college cheerleader NO WAY do I consider it a useless activity ( I think I hear a tad of jealousy Geezstring). I hope this girl fully recovers and this incident will improve cheerleading not restrict it!

This is ridiculous to blame on actual real cheerleaders. There are rules for stunting on hard surfaces. I hate seeing these AllStar programs and NBA “cheerleaders” give cheerleading a bad light. Injuries can be drastically cut back if people weren’t such idiots about this!!! I have coached for 26 years at EVERY level and I hate hearing aboput all these injuries and issues. Hire qualified people, understand there are rules to be followed and speak to your coaches about LIABILITY!!!! I am so tired of cheerleaders getting a rep for the choices AllStar competitions and gyms make letting them try skills they should not even on mats. Let’s quit risking the lives of our kids for a thrill! Sincerely seriously peeved coach!

Somebody is missing something here. This is not a cheer-leading squad. It is a PROFESSIONAL stunt team hired by the Magic to perform. Why are they being lumped with school cheerleaders?

Cheerleading is NOT A SPORT. It is a useless activity and the championship competitions should just go away. Again – all about dancing and attention for women young and old. I like that these young women are active and atractive but I cannot think of another activity (oh yes I can – synchronized swimming, pairs platform or springboard diving, trick skiing (especially that moguls nonsense)), that has less use/need/value. I feel bad for this young lady and I hope she makes a full recovery.
