Nothing feminine about him, although he has a little boy look about him in his repressed emotional portrayal of Darcy. His ability to show great emotion is superior to many actors who are praised more than he is. I just love him in this role and have watched the movie many times, and will watch again. I just think he's beautiful, and I don't go ga ga for celebrities. He's just very talented. When I think of actors like Hugh Grant who are so hyped up by the media, I think why? The ones like Macfadyen are the real talents. I liked Colin Firth as Darcy until I saw Macfadyen in the role. Macfadyen is so manly. I still would have picked Colin Firth (then Daniel Gordh). This article forgot about David Rintoul, who played Darcy in the 1980 miniseries. I haven't seen the more recent movie though and while I enjoyed Matthew Macfadyen's portrayal, Daniel Vincent Gordh on Lizzie Bennet keeps blowing me away! It is absolutely incredible the amount of characterization he has been able to bring to the table, even though his collective screentime is probably only about half an hour at this point. Mondays and Thursdays are always the highlight of my week and doubly so when they are Darcy Days as well. I haven’t actually seen the Colin Firth version yet (but it’s coming to me in the mail). "His" portrayal is so realistic for one of that era of the upper class, and as he tries hard but alas in vain, to smother his smoldering feelings towards this lady ... this lady of so much lower a class and yet posseses such "airs" as his, he becomes befuddled and confused by his own shocking emotional tie to the "arrogant" Miss Bennett. He is captured not only by her looks, but her ability to stand toe to toe with him in conversation and jabs, and her cunning ability of forcing him to take stock of his own prejudices and prides ... The "would-be snobish Miss Bennett eventually comes to see the error of her own unreasonable assumptions and her all too quick to judgement thinking .and must make ammends to the most "patient" Mr Darcy. And so, while I really did like Mr Henderson's Mr Darcy, "Originals" do tend to keep and hold "first place" with me. I tried to vote for Mr Henderson, but hit the wrong place, so neither he nor Sir Olivier got my vote ... sorry guys!!! Oh what folley we humans make of love and art of the chase!!!
